Clairol Natural Instincts Semi-Permanent No Ammonia Hair Dye, 9 Light Blonde

Love this hair looks amazing! Easy application process, not a very harsh smell, no burning etc. Colour looks great.

Don’t believe the other reviews I gave this a try because it was gentler than the permanent hair dyes and I was very pleasantly surprised, but it does actually cover the greys! It was actually one of the famous AI apps that suggested this to me because previously I have stacked hair dyes that have led to my brown becoming black but it suggested this because it’s gentler and semi permanent and will not progressively turn the hair darker and darker. Not only was I pleased that it covered the greys but it’s left it super shiny and soft. I’ve come straight on to do a subscribe and save every eight weeks and I’m thrilled that I have found one so suitable for my needs.

After having my hair cut short and dyed blonde last year, it is now growing out and was starting to look messy, especially with the lingering blonde bits on the ends. My hair is a light brown naturally with salt and pepper greys. I honestly wasn’t expecting much from the reviews, for example not covering greys and being too dark. The coverage was really even. It has ended up a lovely dark brown although it was meant to be light brown. It’s covered up all my greys and blonde remnants and looks in great condition. Can’t comment on longevity as I’ve only just done it, but I would buy it again. These two photos were only taken one day apart. For some reason my hair looks longer! The only reason I gave it four stars is because the colour is much darker than advertised. But that’s not to say I don’t like it.

Left on for 15 minutes instead of 20 to try and avoid muddy staining or too much green tone. Full time may have gone a little dark to. A little green- but a very even dye that got rid of some stubborn brass.... I will use some purple tones to bring the green down :)

Its a beautiful colour, and worked perfectly on my bleaches pale yellow hair, and left it like silk, but it doesnt cover grey or white, which is a real shame as I love the colour x

I tried Clairol Natural Instincts in shade 8A Medium Cool Blonde, mainly because it’s ammonia-free and marketed as a gentle semi permanent dye. The packaging included gloves, colourant, developer and conditioner all clearly labelled and easy to use.Application was simple, no harsh smell, and the conditioner left my hair feeling soft afterwards. However, the colour change was minimal. On lighter strands I noticed a slight cool tone, but overall my hair didn’t shift much in shade. For a product that should refresh or tone blonde hair, the effect felt too subtle.It might work as a quick gloss for adding shine or slightly toning down warmth, but if you’re expecting a visible colour transformation, this shade doesn’t deliver strongly.

Have tried many, many hair colours over the years - mostly more 'natural' ones to avoid damage to my hair and use of ammonia. The French one I had used for some while became unobtainable so looking for a gentle colour that didn't turn my mid brown, + some grey, hair almost black then fade to a sort of off orange colour; lasted 6 - 8 weeks; smelt good and left my hair in good condition and was quick and easy to use. Was very nearly despairing of ever finding anything that met even a couple of these criteria when happened, by accident, on Natural Instincts. Was unsure as it is semi-permanent and others that are semi have washed out far too quickly and not covered grey well. Natural Instincts (I use the mid brown) is superb and ticks every one of my boxes including being the simplest to mix and apply (to dry hair) that have used in many years. Some take at least 50 minutes + heat to 'take' on grey hair and are so tedious and still look patchy and unnatural. This is all done in 25 minutes (including conditioning) and the lovely colour lasts a good 6 weeks before gradually washing out. Hair smells great and is smooth and shiny after using the excellent conditioner - enough of this for a good many shampoos. This is half the price of most have tried and yet is 100% better and is improving rather than damaging my hair and skin. Do not be put off by the semi- this is far superior in coverage and naturalness of colour than any permanent and lasts just as long if not longer. Don't know what the magic ingredient is - perhaps it's the coconut oil - but something really works. Thank you Clairol, please don't change colour or formula you have it just right !

Leaves hair dull & patchy - doesn’t cover grey hardly and gives a weird tone. I wouldn’t recommend

I followed the instructions explicitly. My grays were not colored. Hair left feeling soft and shiny but did not do what I bought it for! Disappointed! Wasted money
