Men’s Deer Hunter Vest Brewster Green / XL

I Purchased this oilskin Deer Hunter vest in fall of 2016. I loved wearing it so much last winter and spring here in the northeast that I actually missed it during the warmer months.. Warm, Great looking, very well made, Extremely comfortable to wear, Many well designed pockets. -- I love the oilskin material; It wears well, is totally waterproof, and is not plastic-like as much of today's outer wear is. I love how the material ages, it gets a slightly distressed appearance, sort of like a well worn leather jacket does.. -- The lining, Zippers, snaps, stitching, draw-string waist all attest to long term quality and attention to detail. Sounds silly, but I am glad the weather has cooled so I can wear it again.. I recently bought an Outback Trading " Outback Trading Swagman Jacket XL Bronze " oilskin jacket for foul weather wear. LOVE the roll-away hood! I am not a hat wearer.. I was initially concerned with the extra-generous size of the XL Swagman, but then I realized I could wear my vest (Which is my primary cool weather jacket) and a heavy hooded sweatshirt under the Swagman... Extra warmth and all those pockets! I may still consider buying an Outback Trading "Packable Oilskin" When it gets back in stock to keep in my car for foul weather in the warmer months. This is a quality item that easily beats the "other brands" for value and features. Solid hardware, zips and snaps. Spare hardware snaps included in a pocket. Thick, warm and "quality" all over. Pockets - 4 on front - 2 x front pockets with pleats for the bigger stuff. 2 x zipped chest pockets. 1 x zipped pocket inside. 1 x "large" pocket inside - in pictures suggested for concealed carry and with extra material stitched on inside to hold a slide and take the rub from metal edges. The two front zipped chest pockets are deep and easily take a full-length wallet and a large cell phone - one each side. Internal waist cinch. Amazon suggested "Large" on the basis of other clothing I have bought. This was a mistake and I returned for medium. I can see large might be appropriate if you were going to use the concealed carry pocket and wanted some looseness and lack of shape to keep things concealed. But even then the shoulders, waist and overall bulk of the vest was too much. I wanted a better fitted look per the pictures used to advertise the product. So I came down a size. At Medium it's a much more tailored fit. In line with medium vests I have from Carhartt and Patagonia. Another way to look at this from my viewpoint is. If I want a thick sweater under the vest I would need large. If just a fleece shirt - then medium.

I have a couple of rare oilskin "Cape Foulweather" ball caps, and an oilskin cadet hat and jacket, which all grow better with age. After recently noticing how flattering a new quilted nylon vest was, I wondered if somebody made a vest in the material I had in mind. Well, of course they do, and I found quite a few that looked suitable, but kept coming back to this one. Normally, I would reject the top-o-the-line model automatically assuming some of the price was advertising, brand name or features irrelevant to me. But after considerable review, it was the best one, and I'm glad I got it. I love the style, the texture and the lay of the material. I'm sure it would be suitable for fishing or hunting, but with a dress shirt it certainly doesn't look "NOT dressy". All in all, a successful proof-of-concept for online clothes shopping, which I have tried to avoid. tl,dr version: You wanna look like every other old guy in a vest, BUT BETTER...this is a great option.

I bought this for my husband's birthday. He's an outdoorsman, an avid hunter, a mountain man, and works hard on our property. He's often in the mountains and always carries a side arm in a chest harness even when carrying his bow or rifle. I thought this vest would be great in general, as a work vest, but also because he can conceal carry. It's really nice looking and is a quality product. He has an oilskin jacket from Outback Trading that we got years ago and it's still in great condition, so we expect this vest to hold up for years too. I also bought him Outback Trading's oilskin chaps to go with this vest and a tub of the oil to maintain both. It was a bit of an investment to get both, but these are things my husband will wear and make really good use of and hopefully with the chaps especially, his clothing will be less covered in dirt and blood and we can just rinse the oilskin gear outside.

Somewhat heavy for intended use.

Absolutely love it. Excellent quality. Lots of pockets and features and just a little longer than most with snaps on side slits. Keeps my back warm. This replaces my old one from Outback that I wore for over 10 years. It still looked great when I gave it away. Unfortunately, I have gone from a L to a 3X.

My husband had been looking at oil rubbed vests for a while at different locations, in person. He tried on several and would have bought one sooner for a little more money, but didn’t like the fit. He ended up purchasing a duster in the same brand, so I knew this would fit & was able to surprise him. Side note he has long arms & legs with a short torso, therefore he has to wear 2XT in order to fit his arms. The duster fits his long arms perfectly. The vest is the also a nice length for short or long torso.

Bought a Deer Hunter vest to go with my Deer Hunter jacket. Could not ask for a better quality, functional, and good looking rugged product. I am large on somethings and X-Large on others, went with a large for both the vest and jacket, fits great and both have room to layer if needed.

Warm without a lot of bulk.
