Not the best, and story line problematical
I looked forward the this last story (Vixen) in Jane Feather's V listings. I was terribly disappointed. The story was not up to her usual standards of intrigue, plot, character development, historical relevance and so forth. Most problematical (and I am pretty much open to a lot) is the loss of virginity of a 17-year-old h to the 34-year-old H when he was in a drunken stupor (although he remembered the next day). I am aware of stories about the "hell fire' clubs in England so was not surprised about Vixen's uncle or step-brother plotting to use her as a sacrifice.

Vixen Is A Winner
As always, Jane Feather has written a most glorious unusual unique story of true love passion and the battle of good and evil.Hugo is the reluctant guardian of 17 year old Chloe. In his past he had killed her father but that’s a long ugly story. Nonetheless they fall in love throughout the story and evil forces are purged in the meantime.I read and re-read all Feather’s books-this one is my 4th time! Yes, it’s that good!HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!♥️

A little worded
This book holds ones interest but it takes a while to reach the end. I like this author but this book is not as good as some of her others.

This reader totally agrees with Chloe…
…Hugo is well worth saving from himself! I enjoyed this story from beginning to end and am buying it for future rereads. Hugo began as very self destructive, had run from his past for too many years. Enter Chloe, an energetic, very sheltered young lady who hasn't had another person in her life who has cared about her (for anything but her money), who instead gives her love to every hurt animal that crosses her path - and now Hugo! Both of them are imperfect (aren't we all?) but both need to love and be loved and, thru laughter and tears, they find each other (or was it love at first sight for them both, hmm??). If two people find real love together, their ages are nobody's business. Life is too short! This was a beautiful love story. (Storyline also included characters from Virtue and updates of their lives.) Thanks for Vixen Jane Feather!

good couple
I really liked the coupling of Hugo and Chloe. I had been looking around for his story because I loved him in "Violet". The whole gist of the story is the match up of someone scarred and jaded like Hugo with a young innocent like Chloe. Yeah, she's young, but if you get past that, they actually make sense.I can believe that these two got together. Hugo needed someone with a different perspective on life who would soften his rough edges. I especially loved the way Chloe would simply make up her mind and just do what she needed to do, regardless of what others thought. The story itself was a bit tired. We've all read books with the whole "Strange cult/weirdo group" and someone breaking away and plagued by guilt. But I liked the interaction between the two leads, the way they helped to balance each other out.For that reason, I've kept this book in my collection. I love to write, and this is a good relationship to tuck away as a reference.Read this book before you dismiss it. You'll either like it or hate it. But in MHO it's worth a look.

Am I the only one troubled by the age difference?
I can not believe that nobody else has expounded on the issue of their age in their reviews. The age of the heroine is the first turn off for me. She is only 17! What's with this too young heroines? I could have liked the book a lot more if she had been at least 20, but at 17, her relationship with Hugo, who is her guardian and is therefore in a possition of authority, just seems like child molestation. I'm sorry but in this day and time, he would have been arrested for sleeping with her.So to sum up the story, Hugo sleeps with her while drunk, feels horrified afterwards, and instead of thinking of her, of how she must have been feeling after her first sexual experience and reassure her and treat her well, he insults her and screams at her and generally treats her like dirt for several days. Then he runs off, gets more drunk and brings a whore back to the house where Chloe finds them having sex in the library floor (the same room where he took Chloe's virginity a few days before). He is again horrified and decides to sober up. And after he has achieved it, he decides to turn guardian-like, all proper and stern, trying to command a respect and obbedience from Chloe he has not earned. He never even apologizes properly to Chloe. Such arrogance just makes me sick.On the other hand, Chloe is very precocious, to the point of being almost unbelievable. But her ingenuity and youth shines through, even when she is trying to be seductive she only comes accross as childish, which only makes their relationship feel even more wrong. She is angry with him for a while, but then starts trying to seduce him into sleeping with her again, seemingly forgetting about the incident with the whore and his bad treatment of her.The impropriety of her living alone with him (except for a male servant which in this case is no help at all), seems to escape notice too. I don't consider myself an expert, but I have read enough historical romance to know that even spending one night unchapperoned in Hugo's house would have ruined her in the eyes of society. The book does have some good parts, hence the 3 stars. I liked Chloe's love for animals, and after a while Hugo starts to be more likeable than at the beginning (if not entirely my favorite hero). Is is a somewhat entertaining (if at times exasperating)book. I haven't finished it yet, but somehow I don't think I will change my mind after reading it completely. If I do, I will revise my review. All in all, not my favorite, just good enough if there is nothing more interesting to read.

It was an...
Interesting story. I did not like the ending. I felt it was either rushed or showed her weakness to just accept his past. I'm not from those times, so maybe it is in period but I didn't like it. I'm looking forward to more in this series.

Very nice
I hadn't read Jane Feather' s books for a long time,so this one was a pleasant surprise. I really enjoyed this one. Well written, not too convoluted, doesn't ramble on either. A little bit of more spice wouldn't have hurt however. Made very good reading. Will continue to try some of the other ones by her.
