Once you know how much pressure to apply, it's a very good device.

Hold the cup part over the egg top and give it it a couple of good whacks. Use a dinner knife to remove head. Leaves a nice even opening to dip your lovely buttered soldiers in.... yum yum and very little shell splinters. I am happy enough with the egg topper just a little awkward if doing the process using the handle only.

Takes getting used to, but it does work in like 2 or 3 nice taps. Don't need all your strength, but it takes maybe 2 tries before you get the hang of it. Keeps the yolk from breaking for my wife's eggs, and that's really all I got it for, because I always eat omelets. If I ever need to keep my yolks separate, like for baking or sumn, this will give me more confidence in that than cracking on the table or sumn. It's easy to use, cheap, and not too big to be cumbersome..not to mention, doesn't create bits of egg pieces that get in the bowl.

On large Burford Brown eggs, I could never get decent cut or large enough hole in egg top. Stuck with my rat tailed teas spoon making a better hash if it despite sometime leaving she'll bits on edge.
