Jiva Organics Organic Garam Masala Powder 1 Pound Bulk Jar - NON-GMO, Salt Free, Premium Indian Spice Blend

I'd previously used another brand that I thought was just fine. I'm by no means an expert in garam masala, but, I thought it was just.. fine. Very usable. I decided, on a lark, to try this brand, for comparison's sake. Well, there's hardly a comparison to be made - this product is superior! My previous brand leaned very heavily on the cumin; I like cumin, so this was no trouble at all to me. But, now that I've tried this.. well, there's a certain harmony to this blend that's lacking in the other. I feel like I can "work with" this a lot easier than my former brand; the flavours are actually well-balanced and I can modify them a lot more easily by increasing the coriander or cloves or cinnamon in a dish with ease, rather than feeling like I'm competing with the cumin. I will say: the container is rather cheaply designed, but as I'm buying the spice blend inside, and not the container, I don't mind. I recommend either handling it with care, or transferring the contents to a nice jar for spices (I like using mason jars and the like). If you don't expect to use it often (I tend to use this pretty regularly, myself), you could even put the bulk of the spice blend in a bag and press out all the air and store it in a dark, cool drawer in your kitchen, and keep only what you expect to use in the next few months (or less) out with the rest of your spices in a small jar, for optimum freshness.

Tasty Garam Masala at an inexpensive price. Jar is flexible plastic with a flimsy soft plastic and foil seal. Mine arrived cracked with the seal broken and some powder had worked its way into the threads of the lid. Luckily that was the extent of it. While I am giving this 5 stars for the value and the flavor it is only fair to note that there appears to be some fibrous ground stem in the product and I am not certain if that is consistent among all brands. I bought my first bag of this stuff at a farmers market in a zip-loc so not that familiar. for the price this is a great value and the flavor is delicious. You will be pleased.

Excellent product if you go through a lot of spice and have relatives who do not like much flavor. It’s decent with a good cumin aroma but it’s not rich or spicy. Would be great on something milder like popcorn or hummus, but not really strong enough for a good curry.
