I LOVE Norton Critical Editions and I always check to see if one is available for the book(s) I want or need. I used this for an American Literature class on slavery and the criticism in the back was helpful for my essay(s). This was another great example of a NCE. Well worth it if you want to read more about the book or need secondary sources for essays.

Book quality/condition was really good, story was boring

beautifully written tragedy of American slavery and the beginning of the emancipation movement. Harriet Beecher Stowe points a finger directly at hypocritical Christens and milksop politicians and ask how could YOU! this is done with a great story involving an aray characters to illustrate the different points of view on slavery. yes including slaves. because it was written in 1851 I found it more legitimate than discussions today - at least start with something like this book. if you are easily offended by heavy bible quotations or the word (n)igger stay away as it is used from beginning to end . this critical edition adds almost 200 pages of reviews and reception from the time of publication to present. making this the version to own.

I felt I should read this classic. Glad I did. It was very graphic about some of the details of the evil practices of the slave holders and slave trader.
