Review: This is a wonderful book to have to reflect on a very interesting time in rock music, particularly on this very influential band. Review: Having given a couple of days for it to settle after reading this book, I cannot shake the feeling that the author was out to make sure readers were aware of everything wrong with all the other Queen books. It's telling that neither May nor Taylor made themselves available for this book, and Deacon didn't either but don't know if that is a surprise. This book works hard to delve into why the British press was never very kind to Queen's recordings and in the end agrees with some and disagrees with others. There are chapters on each of the four members of Queen including mind deadening ones on their solo pursuits. I totally skipped most of those for fear of falling asleep. I tried to read them but I just didn't care. I think what torqued me the most was the author's trashing of May and Taylor for DARING to be successful after Mercury's death. "Glee" is the only word to describe how he feels about the demise of Queen + Paul Rogers. "Disdain" describes how he feels about Queen + Adam Lambert. How DARE Queen continue to tour and be successful! Really?! Come on! These are musicians! They want to do what they do best: play Queen music to adoring fans world wide! Why shouldn't new fans learn the music first hand from two who have been there through it all! And Adam Lambert is doing a fine job as the front man. I'm the same age as Freddie would be if he were still with us. I've been a Queen fan from the get go. If long time fans are OK with where May and Taylor are taking Queen, why try to tear this new version down and make it appear it's just two men trying to milk all the money out of the Queen machine as they can? More power to 'em! If you don't like it, don't listen. Don't buy the records. Don't go to shows. But don't put out junk like this book with the intent to change people's minds about the "intent" of Queen's forward momentum. I'm sorry I bought this mainly because I'm sorry this author gets one dime for this piece.

Not as interesting as some I have read.

And I feel the author often seems to insult this wonderful band when talking about their individual songs. And no, Daniel Ross, I do NOT hear "fluffs aplenty" among other negative comments you make about Bohemian Rhapsody. The technical comments about individual instruments as well as certain parts of various songs are overdone, way overdone, and mean little to any fan who simply loves this band and its music. I much prefer the many biographies about Freddie that I have found hard to put down. I wish there were more biographies out there about the entire band and the other members. EDIT: And by the way, get your facts straight. Jim Hutton didn't die of AIDS, he died of lung cancer.
