Given to grandkids, ages 9-13. They also got a kick out of it, cute artwork, and funny adorable story, Book is also perfect for younger children and available in a board book, which I also bought for our neighbor kids ages 1-5. Rave reviews all around,

Please stop putting paperback books in those brown paper envelopes. They do not protect the books. Books arrive bent and sad. The actual story and pictures in the book are super cute. Happy with the book itself.

I have been a longtime fan of the Barrett’s and their trademark style of illustration. This book is a perfect introduction for toddlers and preschoolers to their work, since it is available in board book form. The quirky illustrations of animals wearing impractical clothing are often hilarious and make this book an absolute joy to read my 2.5 year old. The hen laying an egg in her pants illustration is worth the price of admission alone. Recommended with 5 stars!

Appropriate silliness, made my daughter laugh when she was trying to be grumpy. Worth it for that alone.

I purchased this book b/c it looked interesting. When I read it to my class of 4 year olds they loved it!!!! The pictures were delightful and funny. I found myself laughing out loud as I read the book. For a light fun read to engage children and change a mood, this book is excellent! It does not have a lot of words but like a true picture book, the pictures say it all!

I read this as a 6-7 y/o and, decades later, still have that image of the hen whose egg got trapped in her pants firmly in my mind...and the snake that slithered out...and the woman who was embarrassed! I loved it then - it still makes me chuckle now. A thought-provoking yet light-hearted book!

I got this book for my 3 year old daughter. When I speed read through it initially I had to call several friends because it's very realistic and VERY FUNNY!!!! I love the last page!!!!!!!! But anyway my daughter was able to understand and describe the pictures to me before I read the words to her - i.e. thought provoking. And she found it funny as well. It's a very coursely drawn book, but that may help her draw some of the animals. I liked that it was not regular household animals, so she was able to relate to some right off and others we had to have a discussion on what type of animal, where they live, what they eat, etc. Slim and nice to carry around in day-bag for entertainment.
