Great for mold under the cover.
I've been using this product for 18 months. Made a huge difference with mold on my cover. Used to get black mold growing in several areas on the underside of the cover...this prevents almost all mold growth, and the water smells fresher. It's expensive, but I've continued to purchase repeatedly.

Very Expensive, but Helps Keep the Hot Tub Hygienic
Hot tub operation and care can be tricky. There are a lot of gimmicks and useless products out there, but this is not one of them. I purchased this product after noticing the beginnings of a white fungal buildup in my tub. After using this product's companion, Total Cleanse, before a drain and refill, I began using Hot Tub Serum in my tub on a weekly basis. I have noticed a definite improvement in water quality and clarity since introduction of this chemical into my care and maintenance routine. I use a bromine-based sanitizer system and Hot Tub Serum plays nicely with it. The only drawback to this product is that it is hideously expensive. Essentially it costs about $6 per dose—making it by far the most expensive hammer in my chemical toolkit. I have researched this chemical and it appears to be safe by all accounts (this statement should not be construed as constituting medical or safety advice or endorsement, as it is my personal opinion only), and it is effective, so...it's up to the consumer to determine whether it's worth it. In my case, being able to eliminate a white fungal infestation, I'd say I did get what I paid for. One other note: I was pleased with the way the seller packaged and shipped the product. It arrived intact and undamaged. I had purchased this stuff earlier from another vendor, and was dismayed to find that the bottle had been damaged, and about half of the contents had leaked. The soggy, sweet-smelling cardboard carton sitting on my porch alerted me there was a problem; I'm not sure why the shipping company hadn't noticed. To be clear, the bottle I received from Unique Solutions, Inc., was intact and undamaged, which was a relief, given the high cost of the product. It would be great if eventually they offered a powdered version of this material that could be home-mixed to the proper strength by home chemists like me, but I realize we live in a world populated by dummies and anarchistic ne'er-do-wells, so the U.S. government probably won't be giving clearance for such a thing in my lifetime, and this stuff will remain hideously expensive as a liquid-only solution. Bottom line: this is one of those spa chemicals that truly delivers what it says it is supposed to deliver. It is easy to use (but you really should invest in a graduated cylinder if you don't already have one so you don't waste any of this "purple gold"). I plan to continue using it as a normal part of my care and maintenance routine as long as I continue to own a hot tub. I don't give many things five stars, but this is one product that deserves it.

Great, assuming you use it right
Some interesting reviews about this. Such as "Their is no objective way to tell if this works". Note to reviewer, you are using it wrong! I use it every 10 days. Seems to be fine, trying to extend the use of this product due to it's expense. When you put it in, you let your tub run. You will see see some foaming. If you look carefully, you will see pink gunk in the bubbles. It looks like that big league chew gum from the 80's. Except that is very sticky. That is biofilm removed from your pipes! If by some reason there is nothing, then either are using it wrong, or you are the cleanest person on earth! Even if you bathe before using the tub (like I do) you will still get some. Scoop up the bubbles and dump it in a bucket. Let it run for 15 minutes to get all the biofilm out. Someone else reviewed that they use it just once when they refill their tub (every 3 months). Fresh water has no biofilm in fresh water. It doesn't prevent biofilm, it removes it. Great product if used right.

Creates sanitizer resistant bacteria in these low doses, but does clear some biofilm.
It seems to do what it is said to do, but it uses a simple compound available in other products for substantially lower prices. It is basically a biocide that has shown to be destructive to biofilm-causing organisms. Of course, like prophylactic antibiotic use, this does lead to resistant organisms since it is small/low-dose frequent dosing. The research shows needing much higher levels to be highly effective in killing everything, so I don’t know if I am really comfortable with the thought of creating difficult to kill microbes that can be really dangerous if they infect your skin. I’ll use this bottle up and then not use it again.

THIS PRODUCT IS FANTASTIC!
My tub was giving me Pseudomonas folliculitis and no matter what I used (Swirl Away, AquaFinesse), it would return within 2 months. I read the reviews for this product and decided this was what I needed to purchase. When the bottle arrived I read the instructions but it didn't sound like what I had been reading about in the reviews. I found the company's phone number on-line, called them, and discovered I had ordered the maintenance product and not the cleaning product I needed to clean out the pipes. They sent me the small bottle of serum along with explicit instructions on how to use it to get rid of the bacteria once and for all. I was amazed that it works exactly like so many people described in their reviews. My hot tub vendor did not give me good instructions on chemical dosing - just said to "shock" it every so often and bring water in for them to check. This company gave me simple daily and weekly instructions and the water chemistry has been perfect for several months. The weekly maintenance product keeps the water smelling good and so clear it looks like new. Yes, it's expensive but worth EVERY penny not having to change the water every two months!
