Does the writing on the surface wash off either by hand or in the dishwasher, i.e. is it dishwasher sturdy?

Washes off very easily, I had one from culinary school and I also bought one from Amazon and they both were the same, washed off right away, even with wet hands rubbing it hard....

Is this food-safe enough to immerse in sauces? I'm looking for a ruler I can dip into sauces to see how much they have reduced.

Take a piece of spaghetti and dip it into your liquid. Break it off where the wet ends and mark it at the measurement of where you want to reduce (by half, third, quarter, etc.) Throw away when it's done!
