Sound Bytes Reading: Teach Anyone to Read

My daughter is halfway through this book. It was recommended from a friend. I am really glad. We had used explode the code. While she could do the work she hadn't got the grasp of reading. She was eager to learn but need a different approach. We did the first few lessons a couple times each but once she grasped the flow of the book it has been mostly smooth sailing. I am really happy we took a chance with this bookmark it has been worth every penny.

Teaches the child a few lower case letter sounds at a time, then blends them into words. Then the child practices reading those words in phrases. Once they can do that, they can read a story! All in one two page lesson! Kids are so excited to be able to read a story so quickly. Then they are hooked; they want more. Each subsequent lesson is structured similarly and has built in review.As a tutor, I have used this book successfully with several struggling readers. All you need in one book that your child will actually enjoy using. By the end, the student will be reading at a second grade level.

6yo finally WANTS to read rather than to be scared of it. US schools have the most odd "whole word method" in which kids learn the alphabet and then go straight to whole words. Phonetics, however, are necessary to undertstand the different sounds letters make! We're one quarter in and see lots and lots of improvement

I'm surprised more homeschoolers don't use this book more often to teach their kids to read. I've been using it with my 5 year old for the past 4 months and we've had great results. Only takes about 5-10 minutes a day and we're about halfway through the book and I'm very impressed with his reading skills so far. It's been a really painless, inexpensive way to teach reading.

I bought this book for my 8yo who is a very reluctant reader. I'd say this book is pretty much foolproof! The lessons are neatly arranged, and the explanation in the beginning of the book is fun to read and informative. It has been a joy for us to read together, when nothing else has worked!!I'm also using it with my 6yo who loves to read, and am slowly introducing it to my 4yo. None of them have become frustrated with the pace of the book, and they are all enjoying reading the stories. I let them lead in how much they want to read, and the 6yo is pushing the 8yo, who doesn't want to be passed!

I use it for my 3 younger grand-kids and the youngest 4 took right to it. It is not so phonetic dependent. Love it.

Best purchase I’ve ever made. My 4 yr old is reading! No guess work. Just take your time and follow the book lessons.

I was struggling with teaching my son to read. He was BEGGING me to teach him, I just didn't know how. This book really helped me, and now he is reading up a storm. The lessons are short and sweet, and he is so proud if himself. I love this book!

Acquiring vocabulary by juggling with rhymes, wonderful stories, a great concept overall. At this price it could be colourful though a great start up program for language learners, a must resource for homeschooling. Very happy with this investment.
