My chiuaha will not open door by pushing - he will jump thru but flap too heavy, magnet slaps closed too fast?

I don’t think the idea of this is for the flap to stay “airborne” while they go under it. This door (and every other doggy door I’ve had, the lower their head and ouch their nose to open it, then more like climb through. The door sort of drags on their back while they go through and swings closed behind them. I can usually bribe my animal through with some treats at first. Once they get used to the way it feels they aren’t as afraid of it.

what is the inner door made of?

The inner door is made of the same cheap plastic as the outer frame.

I the door covered or do I have to put a screen on it? It seems like the flap is not covered by anything which would let bugs in.

The unit does not come with any screen. You have to cut out the screen in your door to install the unit. You use the screen you cut from your door to fill the flap in the new unit. BTW - this is a very cheap unit and not very well made, it does not stay in place very well and is not big enough for my Golden Retriever.

How does this install?

Dear buyer, the dog door is fit to install on screen door or sliding door. The installation needs to split the 2 half plastic pieces of the door, then align them to sliding door or screen door, and then snap the 2 half pieces together.
