Bayer Acclaim-Extra Selective Grass Herbicide

It's really pricey, but it is the only selective herbicide that works on Microstegium (Japanese stilt grass.) A real problem in the NE, and it is immune to other herbicides except for Round-up. Pricey, but less than an ounce per gallon. Use with a surfactant and a dye marker, and it goes a long way. The stilt grass does not turn brown but gradually (a week or two) withers to a gray-green.

I use it in my Zoysia lawn to eliminate Bermuda grass. You have to apply it once a month during the growing season so the Zoysia grows better actually, and the Bermuda is inhibited and its growth. It works, but it takes several years to get rid of the Bermuda in Zoysia.

I feel like I have to be a chemist to figure out what works on weeds! It seems to me that this did nothing on any of the weeds I have.

I have read that Acclaim is effective for 3-5 years if it is stored in mild temperatures. The bottle I received from Amazon was dated 5/21, (the production date) which was about 2 1/2 years before I received it. Assuming it has been stored properly (a big assumption), it may not be good for more than another year. I returned the first bottle with the 5/21 date, and requested a bottle that wasn't as old. The return was very easy, but the second bottle had the same date---very annoying.However, this is an excellent product for Japanese stilt grass postemergence. Two days after application most of the leaves were starting to wilt and by two weeks, all of the leaves were brown and dried up. The surrounding grass still looks very healthy. Since the product is the color and consistency of Milk of Magnesia, using a sprayer is very difficult. Although it used a lot more of the Acclaim, a sprinkling can is very effective.

I have been using glyphosate AKA Roundup ,but thought I would try this product bc of small amount needed per gallon to kill stiltgrass. I over doubled the amount at 2 oz per gallon and it did not kill the stilt weed. I have 5 wooded acres that has been over taken by stiltgrass in the last 2 years. The glyphosate used at 5oz a gallon kills the stiltgrass in about 1 week depending on sun and weather, after spraying with acclaim at 2 oz a gallon it's still green and spreading. At 125.00 a bottle just stick with glyphosate.

My yard's been infested with Japanese silt grass. It's really tough to get rid of this stuff goes a long way but it's pretty expensive but it killed all of it in the yard. Guess you'll have to do it a few years in a row is the seeds that are in the lawn have a lifespan of five to seven years!But this stuff killed it good.

We have an exploding stiltgrass problem in our lawn. This killed the stiltgrass and not our fescue grass. It does take about 2 weeks to see the results.
