RE: Plantronics Voyager 5200...February 17, 2018 Superior device, very, very comfortable and when fully charged it has 7 hours and 15 minutes of available time (plug into the Plantronics Hub Application to see this). When fully charged and placed in your ear it will indicate "high" level of time remaining. After the first hour is used, it then will indicate time remaining just like the original Legend does. I tested this time against real time and found it to be accurate. I listened to music nearly 8 hours. I turned it off for several minutes at a time so that I could compare the sound quality to my original Legend. My conclusion: By far the new 5200 has a fuller, richer sound over the original Legend, with a very comfortable dynamic frequency range (without enabling HD voice in the Plantronics Hub). The volume level available is as high as the original Legend, so I don't know why others complain about the shorter battery life, lower volume level and inept music sound quality. However, to be honest, while driving my very quiet big rig down the highway I have found that the inherent droning of road noise and engine noise of my rig is like white noise in that it tends to 'wash out' or 'cover over' my streamed music I am listening to, hence, I must increase the volume more. So, although the sound quality of the original Voyager Legend is not as 'rich' (to include phone calls) as this 5200, I prefer to use the original Legend while in my rig because of its' less rich sound and its' ability to overcome road noise etc., i.e. the frequency equalization in the original Legend emphasizes more of the mid to high frequencies and has more separation across the entire frequency range. NOTE TO PLANTRONICS: Perhaps incorporate into your Plantronics Hub Application several different predefined equalized settings to download to the 5200 or, better still, allow for user defined equalization frequency curves to be downloaded onto the 5200. On the other hand, if you are in a nice, quiet car or perhaps work in and office and want a very pleasing 'Bose' like sound then this 5200 would probably be a better choice. As I mentioned, I have both units - this 5200 and the original Legend - and have found that overall I am most happy keeping the 5200 at home in my office or in my shop and also use it outside doing yard work etc. As you can see,I am primarily commenting on the music quality and voice quality I hear at my end in this review - not what is or is not transmitted over the phone. Many other users have spoken highly of this 5200 units ability to eliminate noise so the person you are talking to can hear only you speaking and not background noises. In this regard I will only say that they are spot on - I can hardly add anything new to the many positive comments on this issue except to say that the transmitted voice quality is slightly better than the original Legend. With four microphones in the 5200 compared to the three in the Legend it does make a slight difference and improvement. But realize, the original Legend is already a superior voice transmitting device and does an excellent job of eliminating and not transmitting noises. It has and continues to be a 'Flagship' device for Plantronics and current customer reviews will support this statement. Most would argue that there is a slight improvement in the 5200 overall but the price difference for the 5200 being nearly two times the cost of the Legend (here on Amazon) prohibits purchasing the 5200. My argument for the 5200 stems from my desire for richer music sounds so I am willing to pay the extra cost. Which would I buy again? Acutally, the answer is both. It would depend on where I am using it - in my rig or at home around the house.

This is the best 'work from home but also be able to hear what is going on around you' headset I have ever found. Clear audio, great noise canceling features for the people you are talking to (I host WebEx and Google Meetings and they can't hear my background TV, Doorbell Ring, or kids in the background playing/fighting). Batt last 6 hours on full charge over time that seems to go down to 4-5. The only down side is they last about a year or so, max, and that is if you do not lose it, break it, or wash it first. I have had 5 of of them, and about once a year I buy a new one, but worth every penny - especially if you find it on sale. Features I like: I wear it on my left ear, very easy to reverse Activate mute with a touch Activate Siri with voice or touch Fits any ear size, as it comes with easy to swap ear pieces Downside: Doesn't cancel outside noise for you - not great if you want to tune out your surroundings.

Let me start by saying that: This Bluetooth is great, but compared to the previous model, (the famous Voyager Legend, which is half the price here on Amazon, see photos for side by side comparison) it's hard to recommend at this price point. Some thoughts - The previous model is slightly more comfortable. - Yet OTOH this has micro USB charging (unlike the previous model that needed a special charger, which nobody wants to have). - The Bluetooth range isn't as advertised. (It's not 98 ft.) Sorry Plantronics, the description is misleading on this. (See below for more details). Again; Don't get me wrong, this is a solid performer. And kudos to Plantronics for making the best Bluetooth on the market today! (it's now early 2017). Sound quality, is good, actually great, but again, as is the previous model. Which is half the price? [its also worth to mention that this isn't designed for listening Music, it's for making calls only)] - So bottom line, for the price ($119) it's simply not worth it, as it isn't a significant improvement over the last model. Unless your pocket won't feel any difference, and you really need micro USB charging, and you are not worried about the slight decrease in comfort. (Update: I am now used to it. NO issue with comforts. It was just my feeling when I switched to the newer model, but it's not something you will feel every day. I don't have glasses in case you are wondering). Also, the foam ear tips are not included in this package. (But you can buy them here on Amazon for about 5 bucks). The noise cancellation and windsmart tech are awesome. It's slightly better than the previous model because they added another mic. But again, the legend is already good enough, and frankly, I don't see a big difference. YMMV. So my personal advice, Just skip it and buy the Voyager Legend, which continues to be the best in class. Pros +Great sound quality +Noice canceling tech (the best out there!) +Good battery life +Micro USB charging Cons - expensive Official response from plantronics: Regarding the operating range, the Voyager 5200 is a Class 1 Bluetooth device, but to get the full benefit of the extended range, your phone needs to also be a Class 1 Bluetooth device. If your phone isn’t a Class 1 Bluetooth device, then your maximum range will be closer to the standard 10m/33ft Bluetooth range. - Hope the 10 minutes I spent writing this review is now helping you make your buying decision. 😊

I have been working with a lightning adaptor into a Sony headset for some time when working in the office at my computer. I'm in IT support so being hands free is essential. The annoyances were: 1) the headset was inline in the cable so didn't always face the right way. 2) The lightning adapter and the headset cable were a bit weak so broke one lightning cable already and I suspect I now had a loose connection in the headset cable 3) Walking around was a nightmare, the cable would snap on the height adjuster on my desk when I stood up, I'd get up forgetting it was on and drag my phone off the desk etc. I did a bit of research and this headset tended to get very good reviews so I bit the bullet. A) Its comfortable - It often feels a little loose and out of position but actually it never falls off and I can always hear clearly - I just need to get used to the fit and the fact it doesn't insert in the ear canal which is good as they tend to irritate after a while. B) The audio quality so far is perfect - It does have a slightly different sound to the phone itself but its sharp and clear and I never had problems hearing and people say I sound clear. C) The software on my iphone is great- I can check for firmware updates, change the language (for voice prompts etc) and select whether I want music to play through the earpiece or not so it has some good controls. D) The siri button is good - I can stop/start audio with a push, answer and disconnect or hold it to dial via Siri. I have only used it for half a day so far but its been great. I just put it on my ear and turn it on and I can walk around and carry on with my day and not have to rush and find my phone and then my headset and plug it all in. I'd constantly say to people "Just a second while I plug in my headset" and hear them continuing to jabber on. Its light, comfortable and doesn't irritate my ears at all and normal earbuds drive me crazy in a very short time. So really the only caveat is I haven't had it long enough to see how good the battery life is but its filling exactly the need I purchased it for. Time will tell as far as reliability goes. I've given 5 stars on everything as it reports 5 hours of talk time and so far I've spoken for about 24 minutes on the charge it shipped with and the remaining time is reported as I would expect. Even on my worst days I think I'd struggle to talk for more than 2 hours total. Ok - Been using it for quite a few days now so to update: 1 - Its VERY fast to connect. Power it on and its connected to my Iphone 12 Mini in a second and ready to use with no delay for Audio. My car stereo takes about 5 seconds to boot and connect and then once connected its another few seconds before the audio starts. 2 - I needed to play with the settings a little - Sometimes I'm with someone and a call comes in, normally I just hit the volume down button on my phone so it carries on ringing rather than actively rejecting the call - When I did this the other day the headset carried on talking in my ear and I ended up answering the call anyway - I realised it says "Answer or Ignore" and if I hit the headset button it answers or I can say answer - If I say ignore it rejects the call. You can turn that feature off in the app on the phone that controls the headset so I have to hit the button to answer so it won't interpret me carrying on talking as a request to answer. This is another good feature of this headset - The app gives good control of options and firmware updates. Some headsets are a nightmare or even impossible to update the firmware, this one is a breeze.

Genuinely terrible and garbage product, do not purchase this. It is overpriced trash just from the start before we even get into the actual issues. For $100 you get a basic bluetooth headset that has the same functionality and quality as a $20 bluetooth headset Except this one is significantly worse because it used the outdated and horrible micro usb. Why not USB-C, a standard that even the lowest priced, lowest tier products can support? Who knows, but its terrible. So no matter what, on your $100 purchase the charging port will degrade over time with every charge until you can no longer charge your product because they insist on using an outdated and horrible standard. Now for the horrendous bluetooth connectivity. I have never, in my life had such difficulties with a device and just remaining connected. Sometimes it will work for weeks with no issue, sometimes I need to daily go on my device, forget this headset, re-pair, and now it works again. Maybe a minor inconvenience...until it just decides to randomly disconnect with full battery in the middle of a call - then you need to tediously go in and re-pair the barely functional headset: let everyone in the call know that "hey sorry guys, hold on. I spent $100 on Plantronics garbage give me a minute to reconnect". Then it says connected but you still need to wait 30+ seconds for audio to finally move to the device. No other bluetooth devices have issues remaining connected to my devices, just the one. Durabuilty, range, phone call quality - all average and fine. Nothing special here, get some $10 cheap garbage and it'll sound and have the same range. Bonus would be you didn't spend another extra $90 on something that cannot even remain connected. Its just cheap plastic with a sub par charging port and horrendous bluetooth capabilities. Seller do not contact me or reply, I don't want to hear from your support. This is a horrible product.

I ordered the Plantronics Voyager 5200 just when pandemic work-from-home in March 2020 began because my beloved Jabra headset finally gave up the ghost. I was confident the Plantronics would sound good (I have an even more expensive Plantronics headset at work), but was totally unprepared for the utter pain-in-the-(“neck”) it is to charge. THE GOOD: - It’s easy to pair and the behind-the-ear style is lightweight and very comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. - The noise cancellation is really impressive. If you’re walking outside and a Mack truck passes you, the person you’re speaking to will barely hear it. Wind noise is likewise cancelled very effectively. - The top volume could stand to go one step higher, but it’s adequate at the highest volume. - It’s relatively easy to arrange for right- or left-sided use, although it can be a little confounding to contort it from one side to other. However, since most people will want to use it on the same side all the time, that shouldn’t be a practical problem. - The battery life is decent, but nothing to get excited about. If you’re lucky, you’ll get about six hours of talk time. THE BAD & THE FRUSTRATING: - This is an *expensive* headset! But if you use it all the time, you figure it’s worth the investment, right? Well, for me it has been a mixed blessing. - It has the worst micro-USB charging port cover in the history of micro-USB charging port covers. Opening that *tiny* rubber protective port cover (which has no indentation or tab to grab) without damaging it requires either the sharpest fingernails in the world, a razor-thin knife blade or one of those microscopic eyeglass screwdrivers. It was tempting just to rip off that stupid rubber cover, but I was concerned that the connector would get full of dust and gunk. - After a frustrating week of using the micro-USB charging port every day, I basically felt forced to spend another $35 to buy the matching charging case. (Alternatively, you can spend more up-front and buy the headset *with* the charging case, which I would highly recommend if you buy this headset, assuming the combination pack is cheaper than buying the items separately.) The case has a built-in battery to recharge on the go, and even has two sets of tiny blue lights to tell you the battery level of the charger and the headset. - The charging case can be used either of two ways: you can either contort the headset into exactly the right position and stick it inside the case (which requires that you un-contort it after charging to put it back on your ear) or simply place it on top of the stand (in the little charging slot) and use it as a desk stand. - The charging stand is quirky and temperamental. I naively thought a desk-stand charger would be ideal and convenient. Silly me. Plantronics, which is famous for their proprietary and annoying charging connections, likewise equipped this charging case with a proprietary, annoying and *quirky* charging connection: the headset has four tiny copper strips on the back which need to aligned perfectly to the charging strips on the charging stand. When you place the headset on the desk stand correctly, the little blue lights will come on so you know it’s charging. Sounds simple, right? WRONG! It *usually* connects correctly, but about 1/3 of the time, you have to move the stupid headset on and off the charger multiple times to get the charger to recognize it and flash those little blue lights, and sometimes you have to blow hard onto the contacts to remove dust particles which apparently impede the connection. But the worst is, sometimes the little blue lights come on and you think it’s charging, but you wake up the next morning to find that, not only did the headset NOT charge, the charger actually *drained* the battery, leaving you with a completely dead headset. This happens so frequently, I have to remember to check the Plantronics Android app (which is almost as flaky as the charging system) every time I put the headset on the charger to make sure it says “charging.” Sometimes it saying “charging” and and sometimes it doesn’t, requiring you to jiggle the headset around some more until it actually starts to charge. (My $200+ Plantronics office headset, which has a different proprietary and annoying charging connection, has precisely the same flaw.) This is not a particularly fast charger and I have heard no technical justification for this ridiculous connection system, so I have to assume it was created simply to force you to buy a proprietary Plantronics charger. This is a HUGE drawback in my opinion. - After a year or so, the headset started randomly disconnecting and reconnecting to my Android phone. It doesn’t happen that often, but often enough to be really annoying. I have reset the headset sensors countless times, upgraded the firmware (which requires downloading the Plantronics app and plugging your headset into your computer), re-paired the headset to my phone and done pretty much everything else I can think of short of burning chicken feathers and chanting, but the Bluetooth connection has definitely become less reliable. BOTTOM LINE: When it works as it should, the 5200 is the best-sounding and most comfortable Bluetooth headset I’ve ever had. When it doesn’t, it makes you weep over the money you spent and all the aggravation making sure it’s actually charging.

I have been using all sorts headphones for my phone calls while driving since before it became against the law to make "hand-held" calls behind the wheel. My driving life has become so much better instantly. (I can't imagine why so many drivers still hold their phones to their ears 🙄 ). I generally like being hands-free whether at home, in the car, or in the street. This headset is the best I've ever had for android: - Battery life is excellent - 5-6 hours per charge; warns when the battery is low with enough time to complete a call or switch to other options; - Charges fast, within 30 min; - Noise cancellation on my end is superb! I could walk down a very busy noisy Manhattan (NYC) avenue or vacuum my apartment, to the person on the other end it will sound like I'm in a quiet room. Every time. Tested with numerous callers. - Comfortable and secure fit around the ear, though might feel bulky at first. At this point I often forget I have it on, until I hear my ringtones in my ear; has a size selection of gel covers - the tip that goes inside the ear, to ensure max comfort; spares are available for purchase, which I did once; - Announces amount of talking time left when placed on the ear and turned on; - Very convenient button at the back of the mic stick to start or end a phone call, or pause something being listened to; also says "Call from...(tries to read a caller's name) and asks you if you want to answer or ignore a call, and you can say 'answer" to pick up; - I've had this one for 2 years, and there are no signs of any capacities being diminished, operates like new; I might not even know all of its features, but this is plenty for me; I like it so much I bought another one, so i always have back up. Yeah, some of my phone calls last several hours - with certain quality people. Happens occasionally )) I can seamlessly switch from one headset to the other in seconds. It technically could be perfectly used for music or videos if you don't mind a single headphone as opposed to two. Which often happens with me for YouTube and Duolingo. I have not tried this item with apple products, so cannot speak to that. I am pretty sure it will last me a long time, and I'm grateful to it's creators. Hope this helps!
