quality unit that works well.
We were going on a long bike trip and thought we might need a little security. Bike doesn't have a factory alarm system. I wanted something that would prevent roll offs and also have a motion alarm. Searched amazon and read reviews of different models. Decided that the XENA disc lock should do the job. . The unit came on time as promised,. Unit was easy to set up and the directions were clear. The lock is heavy duty and the pin is covered so that it cannot be cut with bolt cutters. We have a Kawasaki Vulcan voyager touring bike, and the lock fit our brake disc fine. It could be mounted top or bottom without issue. It allowed very little movement of the wheel before stopping against the Brake caliper. The system was easy to arm, gave plenty of time to lock and remove the key. It has a warning beep prior to arming. . I tested the alarm to determine the loudness and the sensitivity of the motion sensor. It is very loud! The alarm warbles and definitely attracts attention when it goes off. The motion sensor sensitivity is just right, no false alarms if the wind blows, but went off if you tried to move the bike. The alarm reset on its own after a bit, nice to not have a screaming unattended alarm . The lock didn't take up much space in saddlebag. It is heavy so we wrapped it in a cleaning cloth I carry. Didn't want it bouncing around while riding. A padded carrying bag and an included reminder cable would be a nice addition. . Overall very pleased with the unit, good quality, functions as advertised and it was a good price. We slept well at night knowing that the bike was locked and alarmed. No one could roll it away and the alarm would sound if they tried to pick it up. I would recommend this lock to anyone with a motorcycle. If you have to leave it unattended this system will deter most thief's, they would probably move on to an easier target.

I recommend lubricating all moving parts first thing with powdered graphite ...
This is a mass produced item costing only $70.00 and one should expect that occasionally there will be a defective unit. Mine was not and has worked as expected. I recommend lubricating all moving parts first thing with powdered graphite including the insertion opening for the key and its internals. I suggest that the alarm be dissembled and reassembled several times before activating the battery. Forty seconds is not a very long time when the battery is active before the alarm sounds, so familiarity with alarm use is key. After removing the alarm from the disk I always turned the key to a position where it was stopped and would not turn any further. Doing this means that the key slot is always aligned the same way and I don't fumble so much in removal each time. When placed on the front disk the alarm responds to movement of the handle bars but not very well to bumps against the bike in general. However, when placed on the rear disk the opposite is true. When not on the bike the locking plunger should not be closed and nothing should cover the reflector plate. If the reflector plate gets dirty the alarm will malfunction. This alarm produces a high pitched sound that will not penetrate walls well due to its low wattage and small speaker. It will, however, startle people near by and that is the best you can expect from just a "sound" alarm. If the sound is weak or false alarms occur I recommend replacing the battery as low current can cause malfunctions. Also, batteries are often not fresh from manufacture when bought in stores so you may have to shop some to find a really fresh one. If possible and not too inconvenient mount the alarm just "behind" the brake caliper with respect to forward motion of the disk. That way the bike can not be moved in a forward direction but an inch or so before the alarm will hang up on the caliper.

Alarm module is not very durable.
Alarm worked well for about 6 months of daily outdoor use, then the plastic bit that keeps the alarm in the lock body broke and I had to tape it in which worked for another 6 months. A full year later, the thing suddenly started going off randomly all the time whether it was locked to the bike of not. This product would have gotten a 2 stars if it hadn't been for my credit card's extended warranty policy which replaced it w/ a brand new one for free. Unfortunately, short of getting an alarm/immobilizer that hooks up to your ECU, there's no other product out there in this form factor that works well, so this will have to do. If you purchase this, make sure you register the product on the Xena site for their warranty and consider purchasing with a credit card which gives you extended manufacturer warranties because the plastic parts are crap and will deteriorate over time.EDIT: Bumping this up to 4 stars. Got in touch with Xena support and they honored my warranty no questions asked. My unit failed 1 day before the warranty period and they totally could have shafted me but they didn't. Great customer service.

Didn't last long.
Why did you pick this product vs others?:The alarm part of this device was always finicky and stopped working entirely after a couple months. I used it as a non-alarmed lock for a while then it started falling apart and now it's in the bin. Dissapointing.
