Works great and easy to install

I had this item installed by a professional months ago and have not had any problems.It's not really loud as others and garbage is not left at the bottom after use.I'm pleased with the performance.

First off - if you don't want to read past this - give this disposal two thumbs up and 5 stars.Now, story.So, Badger disposal I had till about a year ago gave out after a good long run. Decided to try another brand (won't say name but initials are WK).Finally got sick of that WK a little over a year later.Let me contrast.New Badger Disposer:- Starts at full power in 1/10 of a second and "WOOSH!" sink contents are sucked in!- Grommet is flexible and does not obstruct food and waste going into disposal.- Mounting takes time, but is pretty straight forward. I won't say easy - but step-by-step, you can get it installed.Old Disposal:- WK Disposer started slow and never really "emptied the sink"- WK Grommet would not let ANYTHING get past it - too rigid - had to force things down by "hand"- WK Supposed to be "easier" mount - Nope. Complete PITA - you had to put equal pressure and have it line up perfectly to the docking collar to compress the seal and tighten - I actually had to construct a min-jack to lift and press the disposal into the sink mounted seal! A couple of hours just for that!

My family rents apartments, so I've known the badger series lasts years with fairly regular abuse. I've installed 2 in my own homes over the years, replacing one from the late 60s and installing for the first time. I've never had any issues, never even had to reset the thing!! Unless you need something whisper quiet, this is your disposal. That isn't to say it's loud, it's a disposal... it makes noise, but it might wake a baby sleeping in your kitchen. I've heard quieter insinkerator models, but the badger 5 can not be beat on long lasting, no maintenance, reliability.

I purchased this because my previous garbage disposal unit quit on me. I was quoted a lot of money by professional plumbers so I watched a couple videos on YouTube and purchased this. The directions were easy to follow and I was able to swap out my old unit for this new one in less than 2 hours. I purchased this particular unit because it is the exact same one that was installed previously. Please note if your washing machine hose attaches to the garbage disposal unit, remove the plastic cap BEFORE you install the unit. I had to pop it out after because I missed that step. I also forgot to wire the power connection before installing the main unit so it required some acrobatics to get it wired in. So make sure you do those two things before swapping out the unit so you don’t wake up the next day with terrible back pain lol. It’s been about a month now and it’s working well with no issues!
