Sweetly Sour Berries – My Introduction to a New (for me) Berry
I have never even heard of barberries before, so when I saw this it piqued my curiosity. I am very happy I decided to check these out, because they are very nice. These berries are very tart, kind of like a mix between tart cherries and cranberries. They have a very nice flavor, and soften very quickly when placed in liquid. I have nibbled them plain, straight from the bag, and added them to porridge. While I couldn’t eat a whole bag of them, I really like the flavor. They remind me a little of sour candies, or dehydrated strawberries. These berries have the same textures as dried cranberries, but they soften more easily. They are super yummy in my porridge, softening up quickly and adding a nice tart touch of sweet. I plan on baking a batch of muffins – orange barberry, because I think they would be perfect for use in cookies, muffins, or even scones and bread.I am very happy with these, and would buy them again for sure.

No added sugar
High in vitamin C. Pleasantly sour, no added sugar so only natural sweetness. They’re approx the size of a goji berry or currant.Great to eat as a healthy snack - the sourness means you won’t eat too many - or add to home made granola, oats, porridge, cous cous, or freekah. If you want to add to salads, I’d suggest soaking in water for a short while to help them soften, then use the water for a thirst quenching drink!Well packaged in a resealable pouch so should keep nice and fresh.Bought in March 2023..Best before date is Dec 2023 so good shelf life.

Little dried berries rich in Vit C, slight pleasant sour flavour.
These little dried berries are unsweetened and after eating a few of them it is possible to detect a pleasant sourness to them. They come in a resealable pouch so should last well. I have tried them in yoghurt and porridge so far but will be trying them in couscous too, as I think they will look very decorative. Can eat them on their own too. Rich in vitamin C, they are an easy way to add some nutrients to your day.

Rich in vitamin C
While these have a slightly sharp, acidic flavour that’s not necessarily to my taste, the berries are a rich source of vitamin C and an interesting alternative to other berries. They look to me like a cross between cranberries and goji berries. Frequently used in Persian cuisine.

What is a barberry anyway?
Hmm search up a barberry and they state the whole plant is poisonous to us and is an evergreen plant. Then other links point to health benefits so who knows :-)Anyway the product we have been sprinkling a bit on our porridge or wheat flakes and to be honest gives a slightly sweet then acidic taste to the food, not at all unpleasant but not something I'd rave about either.

Dried barberries
A small package of dried barberries berries.Tasty snack, perfect for making porridge or overnight oats since the water rehydrates the berries a bit and give them volume.
