Excellent Product - Worked Flawlessly On First Try

I initially wrote a negative review because the item delivered to me appeared to have been previously used; so I immediately returned it and Amazon promptly sent a replacement. This review pertains to my actual use of the product. In short, the product was easy to use (if one knows how to read and follow directions) and it worked flawlessly. The package includes a programmer that is plugged into the car's OBD port and a new after-market key fob that can be programmed for the specific vehicle as long as you have an original functioning key fob. I purchased the package for a used 2012 Nissan Altima coupe that only came with one key fob. I had already purchased an OEM Nissan replacement key fob but discovered that a local locksmith wanted nearly $80 to program it; and of course, the dealer wanted a whole lot more than that! Since the Dorman programmer didn't cost much more than the local locksmith had quoted and since the Dorman package also includes a key fob, I decided to try it. I am glad I did. Again, it worked flawlessly on the first attempt and now I have THREE functioning key fobs; which is great because we have three drivers in our household.Based on some of the negative reviews posted on this site; it became clear to me that in many cases, the failure of the product was caused by user error. So, I offer the following tips. First, download and print out the PDF file of the instructions that are available on Amazon as part of the product description; and then carefully read and study those instructions at least four or five times before proceeding. Also, have the instructions in front of you as you perform the programming steps. Second, before you initiate the programming, enter the vehicle, close the doors and turn off everything (radio, navigation system, heater/ac fan, etc.). Third, during programming, never touch the brake pedal. Fourth, BEFORE plugging the programmer into the OBD port, push the ignition switch once to the "acc" position and then once more to the "on" position (the dash lights up). From that point, follow the instruction steps exactly as specified keeping in mind that once the programmer is plugged into the OBD port; switching from on to off and then from off to on (and so on and so forth) only requires ONE PUSH of the ignition switch button. It only takes about two minutes to program a key fob--but don't rush the process! Where the instructions state "wait at least ten seconds"; you must wait at least ten seconds. To ensure you do that; take a digital kitchen timer with you, place it on the dashboard, and start it so it is counting up the seconds. I did that and, for example, when I completed a step and had to wait ten seconds, I would immediately glance at the timer for a "start" time. For example, if the timer read 17 seconds after I completed a step, I would wait until it read 27 seconds before initiating the next programming step. (There are enough "on" and "off" steps in the programing sequence to bother with the additional task of starting and stopping a stopwatch or timer as part of the process! Just keep it simple.)Finally, to correct some misconceptions as evidenced by some other users' comments. Yes, you must have an original functioning key fob in order to program a new one. Yes, you can program multiple key fobs during one programming session--it only requires two easy steps for each additional fob you want to program before closing out the programming, and the written instructions make that crystal clear. And yes, you will need to have the metal key included with each new fob cut to match the original key; but you might not even be charged for cutting the metal key. If you are charged, it will probably only cost a few dollars.Bottom line, this Dorman product saved me hundreds of dollars, particularly given the fact that we needed two additional key fobs. Moreover, if one of our fobs ever gets lost or damaged, it will be easy for me to use the programmer to again program a replacement (I understand that the programmer allows five programming sessions before it is disabled--and so far, I only used it for one session to program two new fobs as summarized above).I am very pleased with this product.

Garbage, Does Not Work, Killed My Other Key

Programmer device did not behave according to the instructions - it beeped 15 times (not 2) when it was plugged in and that was it - it never did anything besides that. No troubleshooting guides for the 15 beep problem. Programmer device deactivates itself intentionally after a few tries, no idea why anyone would ever design a product to become electronic waste. Dorman customer service is off during the weekends, ensuring that when you spend hours troubleshooting this problem it's probably taking away from your work day also. Programmer device also killed my key fob such that I have to insert the fob into the slot for the car to start - the proximity sensor doesn't work on the fob anymore. Overall a horrible experience with an extremely expensive device that doesn't work and no support available in writing on in-person. So now I'm been burned for over $100. Dealer sounds a little better to me, now.

The Remote Works (G37 Infiniti)

I wanted to have a spare key for my G37 Infiniti so I ordered this Dorman 99159. The keyless works, locking and unlocking doors, starting the car and operating windows. Mine however does not work on the trunk. If I have the key in my pocket and press the trunk release button, nothing happens, everything else that I have tested works though.Fob Programming Videohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjXzDJ8kNFY

Tricky programing but it does work

I purchased the Dorman 99159 remote for my 2007 Nissan Altima. The remote look and feel just like the OEM remote except for the non Nissan logo on the case. The fit and finish is much better than some of the cheaper ones. The programing on the other hand is a challenge. I can't find any information on the Internet but this is how I think the programing works. You need a working remote to put the car in the program mode. In the program mode the car reset its remote keycode to a new code (I think). You than need to insert every remote that you want to use with the car to "program/sync" the new code (I think). This include the original working remote because the code had now changed and need to be re-sync (I think). My problem was I did not realize that all the remotes had to be program/sync at the same time. I was successful in programming the new remote but than the original remote would stop working. Than I use the new remote to re-program the original remote and the problem starts all over again. So I could only get one remote to work at a time (I had three remotes, two existing and one new). Eventually I use up all five attempts and the program module expired. You can tell the program module had expired when you try to setup the program mode and you get like 10 beeps in a row (sad sounds). At one point I thought all the remotes were dead because none of the buttons would work. But I got one to work by putting it in the key slot and started the car. After that it would start the car without putting it in the key slot.So here are some key points. Be sure in steps 4-6 you get the one, two, and three beeps. Confirm in step 7 the red car light flash 5 times. Be sure to follow the instruction when it states "wait at least 10 seconds", longer is OK. If you don't get those confirmations disconnect the negative battery cable for 30 second and start over. Repeat steps 8 & 9 on ALL new and existing remotes. After exiting the programming mode test ALL three buttons on each remote. Isolate each remote and test starting the car.To Dorman's credit the instructions do state "All remote must be present at time of programming" and "All existing and new remotes for the vehicle must be programmed at the same time". It's really my fault for not understand the important of those instructions. In the back of my mind I keep think I'm just adding a new remote so I'm just syncing the new remote to the existing code. Maybe Dorman can add an explanation at the start of the instructions on how the program process works. Finally I took the car and all the remotes to a shop that provide programming services. They basically did the same thing I did using their own programming tool and could not get more than one remote to work at a time (at that time I still have not yet figure out the important of programming all the remotes at once). I could have taken the remotes to another shop but I was tired of messing with it. So I took it to a Nissan dealer, and sure enough, they have no problem programming all the remotes (for a price).I hope this will help someone to program their new remote without having to go to a shop or the dealer.

It was very easy to install, I looked up a vid on youtube and did what they said step by step. Once I got done started my car from the new fob. Lot cheaper than going to a dealer to have it done. Saved over 300 by using this item. Well worth the money
