Excellent Heat Response, A Must-Have For Grilling
If you cook with charcoal, this is a must-have.Controlling your grill's temperature is crucial to turning out great food. The temperature difference between my Weber's built-in gauge and the ThermoPro probe resting on the grate is about 100 degrees! And the ThermoPro reacts faster and more accurately to the vent adjustments and temperature fluctuations. The best way to test this product was by barbecuing chicken wings. The trick is to cook them so the skin is browned and crisp, not burned, and the inside is done. So the grill temperature needs to be about 425-435 degrees to render the fat without flare-ups. With the ThermoPro, I was able to quickly tune and stabilize the Weber's temperature to that range. The wings turned out perfect! In the past, I've burned and/or undercooked them or exhausted my coals. The manual is pretty straightforward, except for describing how to use the grill clip. That clip is supposed to be sprung under tension between two of the grate's struts, with the probe inserted into its holes, resting about an inch above the grate. I attached the clip BEFORE putting the grate on over the hot, spread-out coals.Like another reviewer, I prefer using a separate receiver rather than a Bluetooth app on my phone to monitor the temperature. The signal was strong 35 feet and one wall away.

Easy to use and accurate, perfect.
My humble opinion is this is a perfect example of a necessary tool for a non-cooker like myself to conquer the perfect steak or other easily ruined cut of meat. With too many variations and features, this version was arguably the best overall. Not too complicated or generic. I've had one for several years and purchased this additional one as a gift.

Simple, accurate, easy set up, good range
Simple design, the displays are a good size, the connectivity is fast and solid, the temps are accurate as verified by multiple independent electronic temp probes. Both screens of the device have a backlight on the two devices that remains on for about 15 seconds when activated.I’ve used this thermometer setup many times and it works well. The two probes allow the user to measure two items being cooked or one item and the grill or over temperature. The research I did demonstrated that this setup is used by many pro BBQ cooks and chefs.I thought about the wireless probe models but that introduces connectivity and charging issues and higher replacement costs if you need a new probe or two and the initial cost is 4-5 times what this one cost me on sale. I am happy with this device.Hope that helps!

Great concept but temperature probes are frail
Marvelous concept and the electronics work very well!I grill quite often and use a handheld meat thermometer to know when the food is ready. This product lets me do the same thing without having to keep leaving my guests and without constantly lifting the grill cover to check the meat. With the handheld probe, it's easy to overcook but this product sends a temperature update every few seconds so I can easily anticipate when I need to get the tongs and serving platter. The settings on the receiver are intuitive and I find it easy to use. The quality of my grilling has reached a new height thanks to this device.I've now used the product over a dozen times this first month and I am mostly satisfied with it's performance. The reason I did not rate it 5 stars is because the product is not very durable. Like other reviewers, I already had a problem with one of the temperature probes. One of them just failed. I followed all of the precautions carefully but the probe now always reports an overtemperature (”HHH" on the transmitter) even when the probe is at room temperature in the kitchen. I'm certain that I never submerged the probe in water, never exposed it to flames nor to the cooking surface (not an easy feat since it is used inside a barbecue grill) and was I wery very careful with handling the cord and plug but the probe still failed very soon after purchase... too soon. Also, the transmitter itself is not weatherproof. I grill year-round and it's already happened that it was raining while I was grilling. Since the transmitter shouldn't get wet, I need to cover it with a glass bowl to keep it safe. No big deal but it's a bit inconvenient. I can understand the receiver being vulnerable but since the transmitter has to be outside the grill, and grills are outdoor appliances, you'd kind of think the transmitter would be weatherproof. Don't cover it with metal, by the way. I found that didn't work since the metal blocked the RF signal to the receiver. I found that glass worked OK.I've now ordered a pair of "waterproof" replacement temperature probes to use with this product (Cheerson, model IPX-7). I'm hoping these hold up a little better. I'd still recommend this product but I find that the probes are a bit frail for everyday use.
