The photo is of the old body design - Things have changed
Just a note to anybody who's unaware: Ibanez has changed the body styling of this guitar and the photo, above, is no longer what the guitar looks like. The abalone inlays on the neck are now replaced with swirly ivory colored plastic, the ornamental tail piece is replaced with something that now looks like a bent coat hook and the finish is extremely dark brown and obscures the grain and is also now only in a high gloss. So word to the wise. It still plays great, but the unique body styling and aesthetics are now gone.I bought one, thinking that I'd get one as shown in the photo. And I promptly sent it back.FWIW.

Review of the new 2013 Artcore Expressionist
This is to ammend the recent review of this instrument. Yes its true the new model has cut corners on the finish:not with the inlays of abalone in the neck, and not with the nice wooden inlaid tailpiece. This is sad but true. However what the other reviewer fails to make note of, is the more important difference in the 2013 model compared with the2010-2012 model. It no longer has the Ibanez ceramic ACH1 / ACH2 humbuckers. The guitar now has the "Custom 58"pickups, whichare alnico. These pickups have generally only been seen in the +$800 Ibanez models. Although the ACH pickupsare probably the best sounding ceramic humbuckers on the market, and can sound very sweet depending on whichArtcore model, the 58 Pickups sound even better. While they are not higher output per se, they do break up betterand generally offer a sweeter tone. The new model will soon be shown correctly on the graphic, and the price will hopefully revert from the temporaryhigher price back to $599.The 95 series, along with the AF105 and AF125 etc are the higher end Ibanez, and they are worth the extra cost,as they give you a run for your money when compared with hollowbody guitars costing much more. The next stepup from these guitars are more of the small custom guitar builders, and those instruments will cost you in thelow $2000 for even the most basic model.By the way, if it hasnt been said before, these instruments are quite capable of producing jazz, rock, and evenmetal sounds, especially if you like the idea of controlling feedback to give sustain and balls to your tone pallete. The only negative which i feel is worth keeping in mind: as with nearly all instruments of the "jazz box" or acousticbody style variety, due to the strap button location, this instrument, though not neck heavy, will have a habit ofleaning forward, away from you, as you play in a standing position, and thus you will be less able to view thefretboard as you play.

Beautiful guitar
I took the pick guard off. Looks amazing. Plays well. Goes out of tune when I bend the strings like Buddy Guy, but is perfect for jazz.

This is a good one
You can play it and like it out of the box, and it's 3.75 stars, or you can do what I did and make it a 5 Star Jazz Guitar. Out of the box, OK, some like those bridge cable strings, but in reality they do not produce the best tone quality. Replace them with thinner gauge strings, and customize your gauges. I use .011 .013 .016 and flatwound .024 .032 .038. Replace that nut, it's really lousy, mine wasn't evenly spaced, with one that has wider string spacing and sits closer to the fretboard, and THEN, get rid of that bridge. This is not a rock guitar, it's an archtop. Get a conventional archtop bridge and slot the saddle to 55mm spacing, yeah, the guitar can take all that width. You do realize it's a floating bridge, it's not glued down. How convenient. Don't measure the distance to get it positioned right - after you get the guitar, cut yourself a jig out of posterboard to use as a spacer between the bridge pickup and the bridge, and you'll get it right each time. The guitar will intonate just fine, mine does. And get rid of those conventional knobs, get some small wooden knobs from Guitar Parts Resource and make it look snazzy and jazzy. It's YOUR technique that counts, not anyone else's. These simple fixes will not only improve this already good guitar, but make it much more playable.OK, now for the good stuff: I sold my $1,200 Eastman archtop in favor of this Ibanez. The Ibanez has a good, solid, well defined tonal response on both pickups (the Super 58's). I don't really think the picks need replacing, but that's your call if you think you've got better ones. After my neck fixes, including lowering the action to the max, it plays hugely, hugely better than the Eastman, and for you rockers out there (Yeah, been there done that too), it's very similar to conventional Les Paul necks, only better because of my neck fixes.Good craftsmanship, no problems with any of that, and mine is 6lbs6oz, they range a bit higher sometimes up to maybe 6lbs13oz, light weight and easy to sit with.Good luck. After 50 years of buying and playing, I'd say this is one of the better guitars I've had.
