Excellent Purchase!
I have only had this bookcase for five days. Bought it for daughters' room. It is very sturdy as it is composed of real wood. The cherry color is beautiful! Took handiman husband 40 minutes to assemble. Box delivered with damage to one side, appears to have been from forklift contact. Fortunately, only a small scratch on the back side of shelving sustained. It is because of this damage that I give it 4 stars; actual quality itself is a firm 5.

Good buy!
I am very impressed with my Sauder bookcase. It matches the Sauder computer desk in Planked Cherry as well. I am very pleased with the appearance and quality. The shelves are very spacious and can probably fit two rows of books if you wanted (the smaller sized books anyway),

OK for a relatively inexpensive bookcase
Shelves are sturdy; bought this model for thicker shelving to avoid sags. Not fully populated yet so not sure if sagging is yet to come, but more promising than the last shelves. Unfortunately this model uses one of those cheap cardboard backings to finish off the back and keep the books from falling out. Some other models in this range use particle board for the backing, which I would have preferred. It was slightly marred in a couple of places so it is obvious it is cardboard.Easy enough to put together, though they skimp on the labeling so you have use a deductive process to identify some pieces. Fit was pretty good, the board that covers the bottom did not align precisely which leaves a slight seam of particle board without the veneers peeking out, which is unfortunate. Given the pre-drilled holes (good for assembly of course) there didn't appear to be a way to make this go away.

Affordable Functionality
We purchased two of these units online, without ever seeing it before. My husband assembled them easily, without any issues in the materials. I have a large amount of books, both Hard Cover and Paperback, and I've fully loaded up the shelves. I do not notice any sagging at all with the shelves. They look nice with my book collections, and yes the books do cover the backer board so you really can't tell it's cardboard until you get up close. These are NOT expensive, ornate book cases, but I think they look nice in my home office. They serve their purpose and at a very affordable price! In fact, I ran out of room with the two cases and have ordered another one that should arrive next week. It is a good deal!

Need the Old Hardware
I've had a couple of these bookcases for several years now and they are solid bookcases. I wanted to get a 3rd bookcase to match and ordered 1. They still make them with solid 1-piece side board so I figured it would be a solid unit also. When I opened the box (well packaged), I found the hardware for assembly had changed. It now has metal and plastic pieces for the assembly that uses a metal screw to expand a metal piece with plastic ridges to grip the assembly holes in the particle board. The old hardware was all metal and used a twist and lock feature that worked well. I assembled it and the permanent shelf has a gap between its' end and the side and is neither tight nor solid. It sways from side to side unlike the old ones that were rock solid. There is no way I would trust putting more than 5 pounds on such a flimsy bookcase. the seller was great about a return with no questions asked. It's too bad because this model of Sauder bookcase used to be a solid bookcase that would compete with solid wood bookcases for sturdiness. It still looks good but they need to switch back to the old hardware which was night and day difference.

Perfect
This bookcase is actually what I was looking for to fit it this spot in my livingroom. Looked at many before I decided on this one because reviews were favorable. I was a little concerned about putting it together.because I'm 76 and husband is 74 and the bookcase is very heavy,. Took it one step at a time. Instruction good. A few holes didn't line up on the bottom but managed to get bottom piece on after carefully screwing in screws. Didn't put extra shelves in until we got the bookcase in place which helped. After assembled we uprighted bookcase and put on a blanket to pull very carefully on wood floor to wall. Put shelves in and now it is beautiful in my livingroom. We love it.

Not a great experience
The UPS driver called me down to help him carry this beast up to my 3rd floor walkup apt. Said it was 130 pounds. First I had to sign off on the damaged box at one end, inside was visible but saw no damage. We carry it up, thankfully I used to move furniture. Opened it up, pulling out piece after piece, box ripping open in places. Out of 11ish pieces, 7 had some type of dent, chipped finish, or gouge. I believe it all happened in shipping. Amazon said they'd give me 30 % off. Thanks, no thanks. Full refund. Now the fun started, getting it all back into a damaged box. Packing tape for all the ripped parts of box and sealing up. This should ship in two boxes. Too heavy. I bought a similar sized bookcase from Sauder a few years ago with no issues, and just bought a smaller one yesterday on sale, but this didn't work for me.

Spacious and good-looking
We ordered this to expand on our library, and the new shelf perfectly matched the other five we already had. Although the decorative piece on the top arrived split, Sauder replaced it at no cost promptly, and we were able to put the shelf up and the books in without it. I would definitely order from them again.
