Does this have a rubber backing that could potentially discolor luxury vinyl planks?

Yes, this rug has a nice heavy rubber backing. It will block light from getting through to your floor. I would suggest calling the manufacturer of your flooring and ask if the sun will bleach it over time. I can assure you that the floor will not discolor from the rubber itself.

what is the lifespan?

We've been using this mat in our office since purchased and it still looks new. The mat wears very well and is very easy to clean, but I really can't answer the lifespan since we've only had the mat for about a year and seems to have many years left.
