My new favourite books
These books are amazing. They're not an easy read but they are a must read!Leckie focuses on characters and world building more than the political feats that often are attached with the space-opera genre, but I find this is the most endearing part of the books. You learn more of this Radch ruling world from political positioning right down to how tea is made (so much tea).

The other reviewer is a chump of the first order ! The main character is an AI - why does it need to have a gender ?! First one is the best - a genuine attempt to portray a completely other perspective - and rollicking fun at the same time!

Disappointing
I bought this series of books after extensive research, for entertainment on a trip to New Zealand, for long flights and reading on beaches. I haven't read sci-of for maybe a decade, and wanted to rekindle my love for the genre. I looked at The Telegraph sci-if reading lists, Barnes and Noble top 10 sci-fi reads, and other review sites, and they all concurred that Ann Leckie's collection were in the top few reads of the last couple of years. I love space opera in the style of Ian Banks, Asimov, Brian Aldiss, Alistair Reynolds and Leckies books promised similar superlatives from their reviewers.Wow what a disappointment! After the first lukewarm book I only read books 2 and 3 because I thought the series might warm up, but no they actually got worse as I read on. Slow pace, thin plot, undeciperable characters, and a universe lacking imagination and depth is how I would sum these up in comparison to the previous sci-if authors I have read. For example, after reading 3 books centred on one or two main characters, I have no idea if they were male, female, something in between, or what. And yes they were supposedly human. How you could identify with a character so opaque is beyond me. The plot did not save the series either, really not a lot happened because the universe was so paper-thin.I am simply saddened that this is what sci-fi has deteriorated to in the last few years. Back to other genres for me.

Not proper set
The books were sent in good condition, and I have no complaints there. But the set is two from one print and the third is from a separate print with different cover art. For all book lovers out there, I hope they understand the frustration.

The best sci-fi trilogy since Dune
I'm not saying this is as good as Dune - that book has a 50-year legacy behind it and is phenomenally rich in imagination. The books are so different but the Ancillary trilogy was the first sci-fi book that blew my mind the same way that Dune did. And like the Dune trilogy, the first book is by far the best but you fall in love with the characters and worlds so you inevitably want to read more. Sword and Mercy are closer to 3.5 to 4 stars but I'd still read them again and I'd read anything Leckie wrote with Breq and this world.[This is in my queue to buy - I purchased the first 2 on kindle and read the last from the library and now want the physical books though part of me is hoping for some hardback edition.]

Product quality very good. Book quality
Product quality very good. Book quality...wtf is this so popular. A sassy woman pretends to be overpowered the whole book even doe she actually doesent do much and its on a 15 Years quest that she doesn't know why she wants to do it. Only to end with some really weak plot twist s.
