50 Hand Painted Talavera Mexican Tiles 4x4 Spanish Mediterranean

If you are hesitant to buy these tiles, don't be, GO FOR IT! They are so beautiful. Each tile is unique- that is part of their charm and a result of their handmade nature. I bought about 400 tiles for my kitchen backsplash, I bought them from two different but similar sellers so I could have plenty of variety. I couldn't tell the difference between sellers, both were packaged perfectly in cardboard boxes and wrapped with thin plastic foam. None of them were broken, none, out of four boxes! And they even sent a few extras in each box. Packaging 5 stars.When the tiles arrived I sorted through them and separated the different patterns into piles. It was a variety, many tiles of some patterns, few of others. Unlike some of the other seller comments, I thought all the patterns were beautiful and unique. I selected my favorite designs and set them aside so I could plan my layout around them. For the tile designs that were plentiful, I used them for areas that needed a lot of cuts, and that worked out well. By rotating the design and then making my cuts I was able to make the same design look slightly different depending on how I cut and installed it, so it was easy to keep the patterns random. The designs are hand painted and glazed, the glaze is really hard and didn't scratch during installation or with use. I used a sanded grout and was careful not to press too hard while cleaning up, but the tiles didn't scratch at all. The colors are very vibrant and lively. Design 5 stars.Installation took some thought and experimentation. I knew the material (terra cotta) was soft and the tiles were not all the same size so I decided ahead of time that some installation imperfections would be acceptable. One thing to keep in mind, the multitude of patterns really helps move your eye over the length of the backsplash and you don't pick up on the small variations. The tiles are soft and crumbly and don't take well to tile nippers or tile cutters. I used a grinder with a diamond blade. Yes, it was dusty but I already had a grinder on hand and I didn't want to bother with renting and setting up a wet saw. I used painters tape over the areas I cut to prevent chipping, it worked well. To set the tile I used an adhesive called AcrylPro that you can get at the big box stores. It didn't trowel on really smooth for me, its super sticky, so I just back buttered the tiles. It did take a bit longer to install this way, but I was also working on the layout at the same time so I didn't mind. My favorite tiles I positioned at key spots and then filled in between them, trying not to place any duplicate designs too close together. This got harder when my tile inventory ran low, but it was fine. I used 1/8" tile spacers, but honestly it was more to keep the tiles from slipping than to keep spacing consistent since they were not all exactly 4x4. Sometimes I didn't use a spacer at all, you just have to eyeball it. The little spacing wedges worked well too since I could vary the size slightly. I did use a laser level to set the first row, and beforehand I separated out enough tiles that were truly 4x4 so that my first row was level. Also, my counters were not totally level so I got creative and used the larger tiles in the places where my counter dipped, keeping the tops level. It worked out great. The tiles have so much pattern to them that you can trim off teeny bits and your eye won't even notice. Installation 5 stars, embrace the imperfections and use to your advantage.Overall, I love my backsplash and installing the tiles was a fun challenge. 5 stars, and I would purchase again.

The tiles are beautiful. The colors are very vibrant. We had a few broken tiles when they arrived due to shipping , however the seller was very quick to replace them. These tiles are definitely a great value for the money.

I was making a table for outside, changing out the glass top to tile. The tiles are beautiful. Some are a bit thinner than others but it ended up being a very custom look. Very pleased with the product and the price.

Tiles were packaged very nice and I had no broken tiles after unpacking. They even added a few extra tiles to the shipment which was super cool. I had about 28 unique patterns with the balance being duplicates, but no triples. Many tiles were not super flat and not exactly the same thickness and were obviously hand made, which is the charm of these. These tiles are not your mega factory printed by the million style. A few were warped a bit more than average so I cut those with a diamond wheel and used them as half tiles. I used them to cover my console table and I am very excited how it came out! I'm looking for another table to cover so I have a reason to buy more of these tiles.

We used 500 of these beautiful Talvera tiles to create a gorgeous waterwall backdrop for the pergola in our 'jungle' garden. We placed a Tunisian tile centerpiece, 'Baby Peacocks" (from Overstock.com) , to create interest within the Talvera template. Our original concern that the mixture of ethnic tiles might not create the harmonious effect we had aimed for was unfounded! As I think you can see by the photos. We used waterproofed grout and adhesive and placed the tiles on a waterproofed cement board for structure. Before installing the waterfall feature we sprayed the entire project with waterproofing (not sure if that was actually necessary). The tiling part of the project was a labor of love, done by laying the cement board flat on the floor to tile (without breaking your back standing up!) and took about 2 weeks-to design tile cohesiveness then wait 2-3 days between gluing and grouting. Once the tiles were set it took 2 men to 'hang' the wall and secure it. We get tons of compliments on this -a strikingly beautiful addition to our garden and pergola!

Tiles are beautiful and came quickly. Design are repeated twice and I was hoping they were all unique but well painted. I’d hoped for better packaging, 7 were broken upon arrival but overall I’m happy with the purchase and would suggest ordering these just expect a few May be broken

This was my 3rd attempt to order some good quality of tiles for a table I'm making and the 3rd time was the charm!!! I love the look of the variety of the different designs of the tiles and it looks much better than my other choices of using just one design. They are of good quality and have a very close uniform of the size of each of the tiles (being hand made, I expected there to be a slight difference in a few of the sizing of the tiles, however there were none of them that were noticeable in difference)!!! Good job, no fantastic job:) I will be ordering more from this company for my next project, as they were shipped well to reduce the chance of any damage that could have easily have happened throughout the shipping process as well as shipped expediently. Thank you for taking the time to take the incentive to make sure my pretty tiles came to me in perfect shape, as not one of the 50 of them were damaged!!!!
