Broadway Favorites Solos and Band Arrangements
Michael Sweeney is a very talented arranger. The solos are allencompassing, and the band arrangements are great if you play with an ensemble for example. I play at the junior college in the Wind Ensemble and Intermediate Music. That's how I learned of Michael Sweeney. I purchased this book to play while school's out..There are11 pieces, one page each in Solo format and one page each in Band format. This book is arranged with all the Solos first, then all the Band Arrangements. I deducted one star because I like Movie Favorites' format better. Movie Favorites is arranged so that the Solo is beside the Band Arrangement, i.e. the left page is Solo and the right is Band. This is good because you can play from each during the rest measures. It's probably a small thing and maybe if I didn't buy both at the same time I wouldn't notice. But I did, and I do.The Broadway Favorites pieces are: Beauty and the Beast, Tomorrow, Cabaret, Edelweiss, Don't Cry For Me Argentina, Get Me To the Church on Time, I Dreamed a Dream, Go Go Go Joseph, Memory, The Phantom of the Opera, and Seventy Six Trombones. So, the main problem is that the solos have all these rests. What is supposed to be going on? The Band Arrangement having rests makes sense, but the solos... I don't understand.Still, I really like Michael Sweeney's work and recommend it. I hope that any future editions place the Solos beside the Band Arrangements like in Movie Favorites.I definitely recommend, and I don't think you can beat the price.
