UV-9G GMRS Radio, IP67 Waterproof Two Way Radio for Adults, NOAA Scanner & Receiver Long Range Rechargeable Handheld Radio, Repeater Compatible, with Programming Cable

I have two of these for my wife/friend to use while in the great outdoors. Radio works incredibly well and love the fact that it is waterproof, so I dont worry about it getting rained on or splashed on while fishing in my kayak. For those complaining that it doesnt have a usb charger port, you can buy a usb charger dock on amazon. I think it was $13. I use my NocoBoost GP70 lithium ion jump starter battery to charge it when camping. Radio is ready to use out of the box, but it is nice to use CHIRP to customize it to your own needs. You will need to watch some tutorials on Youtube to figure out how to customize it on CHIRP. It isnt the easiest process, but it is typical with this kind of product. it has a steep learning curve. These radios are so tough and work so well for the money, it is scary.

Purchased my Baofeng uv9g last week and like it out of the box, however, there are still some glitches.First glitz noticed was the #key still does not allow change of power! The work around is simple though:Press menu, 2 and there is the power adjust. The other item I noticed was that the DIY channels are still in groups of 3! And a change made in one shows up in the other 2 when scanning. Using CHIRP I was able to skip scanning the weather channels. However, it should be noted that it will scan ALL the DIY channels unless you skip the unused ones also. The other item noted was, the little extra screw for the programming cable is not captured. Got lost the first day, a lot of crawling recovered it now tape 'captures' it. Still not quiet the Redhead of the GMRS radios. Oh, I did paint a white line on the on/off knob to see if the radio is ON or not and roughly where the volume is set. Another thing I noticed is that radio is supposed to be water proof, however, the battery compartment is not! There is no discernible gasket on either the battery or the radio itself! So water can enter the battery compartment, don't drop this radio in salt water! Other than those glitches it is a really nice radio.Rudio

Nice GMRS radio with loud speaker, great audio reports on GMRS repeaters. Going against pro high priced Motorolas, only difference is the Moto has the squawk roger beep if enabled. Otherwise this radio sounds just as good on 5 local GMRS repeaters. Not fond of the round knob to attach belt clip. Prefer the flat type as the round ones take up to much room in the hand. Some earlier models would not transmit on channel 15. There was an easy to do firmware patch that fixed that issue and did not wipe out the programming. $27 is worth it just or spare batteries and charger! There is a USBC port battery available on Amazon. Bought one and works 100% for when desk charger is not available. The USBC charges to about 95% where desktop does full charge. But all USBC charges are like that. Also the best antenna for this is the Nagoya GMRS antenna on Amazon that is only 5.5 inches long and outperforms almost any other antenna (even longer) that I have compared on receive for range and hearing audio back from repeaters.

This is a great radio for FRS/GMRS use, it is locked to FRS/GMRS frequencies, but that is fine with me, I have many other Handhelds to use for the other Freq's that I am licensed to use. Its kind of nice having a radio that is just for FRS/GMRS. I have not tested the waterproof claim nor do I intend to, there are youtube videos that will show you that, I however am not gonna take the chance. LOLI did purchase the Baofeng RA-MD2 antenna that is longer than the stock antenna and tuned for GMRS, it greatly improved my signal for receive, and I would assume transmit, but haven't talked to anyone yet since changing the antenna. But I believe its an improvement for this radio.There is no Airband receive or USB-C charging on this radio, but I do think after market batteries may be available that support USB C charging. It probably takes 3-4 hours to charge fully in the charging base.Overall, not a bad radio for the price.
