Pricey but very good quality.

good quick snack
Sometimes they come up a bit dry. They are expensive. Overall though they are a good store cupboard quick snack and mix well with other salad veg.

Ease of use.
Very easy to use; no long cooking time. Add balsamic vinegar and small amount of Dijon mustard.

Very versatile for a quick healthy meal but lacks flavour.
Growing up, my mum would always incorporate lentils into her dishes. Anything from lentil and tomato soups to an aubergine and béchamel lentil moussaka. Though Lentils were always relatively cheap to come across; even for the more premium variants and brands.Despite being pre-cooked, and ready to eat, I do feel that (especially when purchasing in bulk), £12 for 6 sachets is quite expensive, though at the same time you are paying for the convenience of it being ready to eat. Though, the ‘ready to eat’ aspect Is a little deceiving as eating this on its own is incredibly bland and flavourless. You would need to add some stock and some veggies to make it enjoyable. Alternatively, you could add it straight into a soup to make for a nice evening meal. The lentils here are of great quality though, deep in flavour and cooked to perfection. Though, if you intend to take one of these packs to work to eat, you’ll be disappointed and would have a hard time eating it. If anything, you’d need to warm these up as having them cold was an unpleasant task. Overall, 4 stars, could be better. As it stands it’s underwhelming for the price from such a reputable brand.Thank you for reading my honest review, I hope you found it helpful! :)

Perfect for quick and convenient lentil recipes.
It just so happens I've used these products several times before. Merchant Gourmet are well known in the culinary sector. Especially in these pre-packaged convenience items.Puy lentils come in a variety of ways. Tinned, dried or packaged. This way is my preference. I find tinned can lose their texture, dried are too time intensive as you usually have to soak them like most pulses and beans. This way is just so much more convenient. You simply need to squeeze the package to loosen up the contents and then open the package.I presume these can probably be microwaved, but there's a specific recipe I like these for and that entails putting them into a saucepan and covering with water with some thyme and 2 whole garlic cloves then simmer for twenty minutes. Once they're cooked you take out and discard the herbs and crush the garlic (which is super soft by now) - You then mix it into these lentils with olive oil, some good quality vinegar and salt and pepper. It's delicious served with sausages, duck or a variety of other things. There are hundreds of other ways you can use them, but that's my favourite. This comes in a box of 6, priced at £12 - In the supermarkets you can expect to pay more than £2 a packet, unless they're on a special sale so the value is good if you prefer to buy in bulk. One packet is enough for two as a side, or component of a main. Very delicious, good quality lentils that I will continue to buy again and again. If I had any criticism it'd be because the packaging is single use plastic and also happens to be quite tricky to wash out properly. The lentil residue is quite stubborn! I have found that some supermarkets now have tetrapack style recycling though, and so I wash mine and take them there along with pet food sachets etc.Other than that I couldn't recommend this brand highly enough. Very good.
