Cisco WS-C3550-24PWR-SMI Catalyst 3550 10/100 24-Port Inline Power Switch

I chose a rating of 5 because this is a high quality switch which I used to practice for my CCNA wireless exam. I got it for 100 dollars which was a steal considering they originally retailed for over 3000 dollars. I like the fact that it has POE on all the ports and of course from my experience Cisco switches are extremely reliable and standardized which makes troubleshooting easier.

its been a great workhorse for my lab for study and work. if your dealing with IP phones you cant beat the price and features.

Most corporate networks are trashing the good 'ol 3550 in lieu of L3 switches that will support 1Gbps on all interfaces, w/ 10Gbps uplinks. This 100Mbps box is the perfect switch for home use! Combined mine w/ a WAP that supports the old (pre-802.3af) Cisco in-line power, and WPAv2 personal @ 54Mbps. Couldn't ask for more!

I like it so far. I got a usb to serial adapter and a console cable so I could mess with IOS. The ports all look very corroded and nasty but they still work. I am able to use PuTTY to get into the console port and configure things. I think this is worth it if you are really intent on learning Cisco. Be warned though, this thing is massive and has a rather loud fan. It is much louder than my desktop.
