It doesn't turn off. You'll have to take the battery out.

How do you program memory function?

When you put a time (i.e. 10 minutes on timer 2) and the timer goes off just press the number and stop. The next time you use timer 2, hit it twice and 10 minutes will come back up. As long as you don't hit the clear button when you press stop you can always press timer 2 and get 10 minutes. I found this by accident, I home this answers your question.

I don't believe that it has any magnets inside. I works very well. I think it would be just fine around electronics. I am very pleased with this timer.
