Spincasting at new level.
This thing casts great. Winds in real smooth. The retrieval rate is kind a what I was looking for in this reel, 5.1:1, at 29.6" per turn, and you have to actually wind in a little slower, not crank away like mad like with most spincast reels. Not sure why some people are having some trouble with this reel. I would check the line. You have to inspect things, not just out of the box and go play. Check the line and make sure all screws are tight. With mine everything looked fine. Maybe its just some one from Daiwa talking trash about this reel. The padded neoprene cover is a nice touch to save from being bumped around. Pricey yea, I wasnt too concerned about that if it was all that I heard about it. I wasnt disappointed. Would I buy again, yes.

The Holy Grail of Spincast Reels
I've owned dozens of spincast reels, I'm a fan of the simplicity. The Zebco Bullet is a spincast reel of the highest caliber. Casting and reeling are both solid and smooth. It will cast far, and reel in fast. The price is high but I can tell you it's worth it. This reel is a great alternative to a baitcaster, for those of us who frequently find ourselves unraveling backlashes. This thing casts farther than my baitcaster, and doesn't need tuning or special handling... just release the button and zing it out there, time after time. The reel is a bit heavy and I would say if Zebco can figure out a way to lighten it up without compromising the solid feel and reliable operation, they'd have something incredible. Even so, this is definitely a 5-star product.

much better than my old Zebco 33 Reel
I ordered this Zebco ZB31BX3 Bullet Spincast Reel because I have used Zebco Reels for years with no problems. I have to admit, the reel holds up to Zebco standards, much better than my old Zebco 33 Reel. The one they shipped me was black, not blue, as in the picture. So I had to buy another Rod to match the color. No big deal, I can always use an extra Fishing Rod. The Reel works great, and retrieves the line fast. I've used it catching large Catfish, Bass, and Walleye, as well as Sunfish and Bluegills. I paired it up with a Medium Action 7' rod and I've made it my number 1 fishing rig.

Tested and approved !!!
Rarely do I post product reviews but I must say 'BRAVO' to Zebco for releasing a reel that I asked them for. I waited for plenty of time to use the reel before posting feedback and will preface my comments by saying I own and use a multitude of spinning, bait casting reels and have a small fleet of Omega Pro Z02/Z03 reels. 80%+ of my fishing involves constantly casting Rapala's into shore (rocks, weeds, logs, etc.) for smallmouth bass while fishing on a moving river. The Bullet casts smooth and consistently, retrieves line line, lures and at times fish like 'a bullet' over and over, has a great feel and overall I've been pretty impressed. I've tested it on several quality rods of various lengths with numerous lures, techniques and retrieve speeds and thus far I like and am comfortable stating this is by far and away the best canned reel I've used. I've tossed soft plastic, spinning lures and even rubber frogs and plenty of topwater baits with no issues! The negatives (there's always something right?) is that it IS heavy and at times FEELS heavy, the drag is hard to dial upon at first set it up for the given rod/lure/fish you hope to set a hook in so make sure you test/set the drag a few times before latching into a fish. I would really love to see an Omega Pro Z02 size Bullet from Zebco with a little less size/weight and the same great dynamics as this larger Bullet sized reel in a can.Well done Zebco!

it's a great reel.
Not sure if everyone is having this problem or if it's just the two that I have. I use braided line and more often than I care for, the nubs that stick out of the spinner head don't go in far enough to release my line on a cast. Causing a lockup on the cast. It's very frustrating, and I've lost several lures because my line has snapped on the lockup. Otherwise, it's a great reel.

Too sensitive
I bought two of these and have used them over the last two seasons. The take up speed rivals spinning reel speed. The drag seems to work well but needs occasional checking to assure it hasn't changed. Unless you clean it every month it is rough on take up, making you thing you have a strike when you don't. On one model the retrieve head was so hard to remove that I bent the handle before it broke loose. You have to remove two screws to get to the gears for lubrication and one of the screws froze and had to be dropped out. When they work they are great but I'm used to the rugged, less fussy Zebco 33.

fast retrieve
Fastest retrieve of any spin cast, equal to any bait caster, i bought 3 of these reels and have fished the heck out of them this spring, i love the retrieve nearly 30 inches a turn, my buddy who always fishes bait casters and has for years still backlashes and generally has to work on his reels a couple times a trip, i hate trying to deal with a back lash so ive always used spin casters, pretty much have used every thing on the market but nothing comes close to this reel, it cast a mile, gets your lure back fast if you need to, the drag is easy rt top to adjust if you need too, it feels good and solid in your hand, its not big and bulky like a zeb 808, ive bought 3 and thinking about another one, even though its very pricey, i think its worth it, the best spin cast out there.

Sometimes the bail catches the line when you try to cast, sent it back
I finally sent this back. Lost a couple of lures when the line broke during a cast...when the reel spontaneously stopped in the middle of the cast.I've been using a spincast reel for 55 years as my second reel, with baitcasters being my primary. The last 2 Zebco reels I bought have been hanging up or catching the line in the middle of the cast. I thought their top of the line $100 reel wouldn't suffer from this problem...but it does. Took it fishing for the first time today and it happened about 5 or 6 times. Not exactly stellar performance. I used a Abu Garcia reel for 20 years, never happened once.Zebco needs to address this!!!Thinking about sending it back. I'm going to give it one more day on the water and see how it goes.
