Great value for great blanket
This blanket is a perfect size to use around the house, in the car, camping, wherever. It's big enough for one person to wrap up completely or two people to share over top. It has a good feel, nice and soft and heavy. When I first opened the package it did have a very strong diesel-like aroma. I know that's just the strong smell of lanolin and how my nose interprets it, but it is pretty powerful. After a gentle wash, the smell was mostly gone and it now just smells like a wool blanket. The color is a rich burnt orange that I love (less bright/vibrant than the pictures in the listing). This is not a $500 artisanal wool blanket but for the price you're getting a great wool blanket for a good value. I've seen some "wool" blankets in stores that are 90+ percent synthetic with some tiny fraction of wool for the same price or even more. This is the way to go. I'm ordering another one in a different color based on my experience so far. By the time I'm done I'll probably have one for everyone in the family. Update: bought the blue version. It had almost no smell at all but felt just as substantial. Washed and dried and it is comfy and warm. Also used some webbing and buckles I had to make a blanket roll/carrier for each. If Arcturus is reading these reviews I wish they did a bundled version that included one for a reasonable price instead of as a separate item.

Good quality, NORMAL wool scent, excellent value.
No odor whatsoever upon arrival. If you bury your nose in the blanket and REALLY REALLY sniff hard, you might catch a tiny bit of normal "wool scent." Every wool blanket I have ever encounterd has the same scent. No biggie. It is genuine wool and smells no different than a wool sweater. No massive shedding, either. Maybe I got lucky and got a "good one," but I doubt that. I really question the hysterical one-star ratings for this blanket, which almost caused me to not purchase it. They are doing Arcturus a big disservice with the ridiculous hysteria. (I am not affiliated with Arcturus, I am just a normal customer.) If one has a wool allergy of course this will not be a good buy for you, but your allergy or over-sensitive nose is not a reason to give a one-star rating. The blanket is medium heavy (4.5 pounds advertised) and very warm. It feels hefty and and comforting without pinning you down with sheer weight. Normal and typical "wool scratchy," which is not scratchy but rough compared to fabrics like cotton. Again, not abnormal. The edges are bound with quality stitching. I like this blanket so much I that have recommended it to family members, and the $45 price makes this a great value. This blanket is going to live in the back seat of my pickup as a passenger comfort blanket / survival blanket.

Quality, Quality, Quality
I ordered three different colors of this blanket to match furniture, we use them as throws. These are solid, fairly thin but very heavy because the blanket fabric is very dense. One of my blankets did initially have a smell, from the natural lanolin. After letting it air and tumbling it for a few minutes in the dryer on no heat the smell was gone. They are very warm, breath well and I find that the weight seems to help me sleep better. After a bit of use the blankets soften up quite a bit, much smoother than the wool blankets I used as a child which must have been made with fire ants. Pay attention to the washing instructions if you need to wash. Hand wash and line dry is the best way to care for them should you need to launder them.

Serious warmth when you need it. Great wool for the price.
Very nice look and feel to this blanket, I used it to stay warm for hours while deer hunting in freezing weather. I plan on taking this camping. Unlike the wool military blanket I used prior, this one is big enough to wrap my whole body in (I’m a bigger guy) and tuck under my feet for max warmth. Would make a really good emergency blanket for your car or basement if you live in tornado country. Would make the perfect gift, because let’s face it, nothing beats a wool blanket when you need one most. Is it scratchy? Not really, this is way softer than my military surplus wool blanket, but not quite as soft as a fine Kashmir wool sweater. Still quite soft and nice on the skin. The weave is really tight and the edges are nicely stitched. Wool is inherently a superior material to polyester (literally made of microplastics, yuck), and better than cotton for warmth and durability. Wool can put out fires and keep you warm even if it’s wet, so I’m giving an A+ to the sheep too, for having such great hair, not just the manufacturer for making it into a good blanket. Take the wool pill, you will not regret it. It’s time tested and natural. Just make sure to use woolite detergent and cool water to wash, then tumble dry no heat or line dry it, same as any wool product.

Legit blanket
This is clearly a well-made product. And I was impressed with the weight of it. Definitely a substantial blanket. The only negatives that I can see are there is a bit of a bad scent to it when I first got it, but it seems to have dissipated now. And it’s a little bit itchy, but I suspect that that would be improved if I washed it. Unfortunately, it says that it should not be put in a washing machine, especially not one with an agitator. But it’s too big for me to try to wash it and dry it in my shower. So I’m not really sure how I’m going to clean it. But it’s made in America and if you need something warm, I would recommend it.

Warm blankets perfect for camping or at home
I’ve bought these blankets for camping and for in the house. I’ve even taken them to AirBnBs where I thought it might be cold. They are rugged, but look great. They soften with use. I purchased these orange ones for senior Wood Badge staff members (a Scouting America adult leadership training course) where our course colors included this bright orange. The color was perfect. I’ve bought navy ones where the colors never ran or transferred. The burgundy ones I gifted to my adult son did have a little color transfer onto light sheets when they were left on the sheets. I don’t know if these orange ones would, but most people would be using these camping, not on beds. There is a light wool smell at first, but that is normal for wool that has been in packaging. My scouts have used these blankets for Klondike and dragged them through snow and mud and leaves with things wrapped in them and these blankets never fail. They dry quickly and keep you warm.

Amazing product
Just got mine in today. I absolutely love it. Very glad I decided to go with this blanket. Its huge. Lol. Seems to be very well made. Nice stitching. Very comfortable and feels great on the skin. Decent weight. It smells nice. I am planning to use this one at home, and will definitely buy a second one for bushcraft. Going to use it as a bed cover to lay on top of for insulation. Then I will use the bighorn 100 percent wool for a blanket. Hope this helps. Again, absolutely love it. Thank you Arcturus. You make a great product.

For the price point, it's a very nice wool blanket
Our winters can be very cold and stacking 3 conventional blankets on my bed and having to get up during the night to get another to achieve adequate warmth to sleep isn't my cup of tea. One or two should be sufficient and this Arcturus blanket feels cozy warm and heavy similar to other wool blankets I have. It isn't a Pendleton weight piece but certainly meets a very good standard for a wool blanket. I have the dark red colored one. It has a natural wool material scent but nothing pronounced, distinctly chemically offensive, or unusual for wool. The color is even throughout the piece as is the weave. I have not washed it yet as it's new but would believe washing it with care as directed would be suitable. For the price point, this is a very nice wool blanket.
