This one is a keeper (of small hands out of the toilet bowl)!
Short review: This is the best toilet seat lock I've tried (and I am ashamed to admit that we've tried a few now). It's easy to install, and secure. Details: We bought a few different toilet seat locks to keep our toddler's curiosity at bay, but a number of them require some form of modification to the seat itself, or the tank. While we weren't really against that, we were very concerned that the adhesives wouldn't hold if our kid really gave the seat a tug. (I'm not entirely sure this would hold up, either, but if he gets violent with it, the lock will open and not damage the rest of the toilet seat, anyway.) INSTALLATION: Pretty simple. You snap little spacers between what works as a sort of C-clamp around the inside of the toilet bowl, and this holds it in place. You can only uninstall it if you can get inside the toilet bowl in the first place, so the kid is powerless against it. One thing I will note is, I did run into an issue with one of our bowls, where not enough spacers were provided to make it as snug as I would have liked. However, it seemed reasonable enough that I didn't think it was going to come loose, and again, the mount is inside the bowl, so it's secure when latched, even if it's a little loose. EFFECTIVENESS: Well, I can say that it manages to bewilder and frustrate grown adults who have come to visit us, so I'm sure that it will cover the vast majority of children who use it. Once you know the trick (lifting up little levers on both sides of it simultaneously), it's very easy to open, so it hasn't bothered us in the slightest. Overall, all I can say is, we bought one, and liked it enough to buy another one for our other bathroom, and proceeded to rid ourselves of the other ones we've bought. This one's a keeper!

Great Non-Permanent Option
I looked into several toilet locks before ordering and I was disappointed that so many of the best-rated products involved more permanent installation. So I found this one and thought it was worth a try. Although I think my son will eventually figure this out (I've seen him try lifting one lever already- probably having seen us do it and he's a good imitator monkey), I'm hoping by then that he'll also understand not to play in the toilet. It takes some coordination to lift both levers at the same time. In fact, my husband and I have horribly enjoyed hearing our family go into the downstairs bathroom and have to call us to show them how to do it- all as they have to use the restroom. LOL! It is not permanent and doesn't seem to be leaving marks on the toilet or lid (of course, if you slammed it down really hard, you might get some marks under the toilet seat itself but we aren't the gentlest family and I don't see anything). If you are a larger person, you might feel the outer part of the arm against your thigh even when it is open, but it doesn't hurt and we've just pushed it towards the front more. I think this is a great option and works well.

Mommy's will hate this too!
I bought this product for two toilets in my house. One toilet has a hard seat and one a soft seat. I assembled them just as the direction said and it seems to lock and hold when I gave it a little tug. (It is so easy to assemble and easy to open and close.) So, I trusted the locks would work. Wrong!!!! I have a three year old and and a 19 month old. I showed my three year old how to use it and she got the idea right away. Well I walk in, the bathroom in my bedroom, to find my 19 month old playing in pee water ( Yuck!) and the lock on the floor!!!! I was so disgusted I put him in a bath and talked to my three year old about flushing after she goes. I asked her if she forgot how to open it and pulled it off the toilet and she said no. I put the lock back on and after my baby's bath I stood him by the toilet to see if he could take the lock off. To my amazement he had that lock off and on the floor in under ten seconds flat! My first thought was defective lock! I took him into the other bathroom and, 'YOU KNOW IT' off went the lock. I just threw them away and am back to shutting the doors and looking for something my three year old can use but my 19 month old can't open or take off. Please, don't buy this product, you will be sorry!

It works but could do with a few improvements
My son recently learned the word "wash" and that meant going to the bathroom sink to wash. Recently, we discovered (to our chagrin) that "wash" also meant dipping his hands into the toilet bowl and so we started taping down our toilet bowl lids with packing tape or duct tape, whichever happened to be handy at the moment. Unfortunately, having your toilet bowl lid taped close also means that depending on how closely it was taped and how sticky the tape was (we reuse the tape), adults also have a hard time using the toilet. You can't wait till the last minute because you might have to take 10 seconds to remove the tape. This also makes it so inconvenient using the toilet at night. And that led to the purchase of this product. The product came in several easy-to-identify pieces - four spacers, 2 L-shaped things that go under the rim and the main body of the toilet seat lock (the big L shaped thing attached to a hinge. I ended up having to use all four spacers on ours. It was easy to assemble and attach. The problem was that while the spacers addressed the issue of toilet bowl rims being different sizes, the manufacturer assumed that the seat and the lid sizes are universal - there is no provision for having thinner or thicker ones. As it turns out, the topmost portion of the lock floats about half a centimeter above our lid, it is very loose. My son has already attacked it a few times since it got installed and so far, it's kept him from dipping his hands into toilet water. Given its loose installation, I don't think that this will survive a sustained attack from a determined toddler and this is why I took off one star. But then again, as children aren't supposed to be left unsupervised anyway, this device certainly performs well in the sense that it keeps our toddler from getting his hands into toilet water and gives us time to reach him.

Lid still lifts a little but worked great for us - very easy to install and remove
This worked well while we needed it. It was very easy to install (no tools necessary) and also easy enough to remove for cleaning or travel (but not so easy that my toddler could figure it out). When I traveled with my daughter, I took it off and took it with me so that I didn't have to worry about her getting into the toilet wherever we were. It did take someone else a few minutes to figure out how to open it so make sure to tell your guests if it is on. It's very easy you just lift the little levers and remove the lock but too complicated for a toddler. You can still lift the toilet lid a tiny bit with the lock on so if your child really wants to, she can probably still shove something in the toilet but it will take enough extra work that you should have to time to catch her before she flushes it.

Good for toddler
I have caught my son trying to use the toilet as a play tub so I had to get these ASAP. I mean seriously, you gotta keep them away from the toilet, the germs and everything is just very bad for them. I know they can survive but I just want mine to not have to go through getting sick before he learns. So we got one of these for every bathroom in the house. It takes some getting used to for the flap and pulling open but trust me it's a minor adjustment to trying to get the kids away from the toilet. My son loves water so it's challenging. This works well but the adhesive on it is very sticky so once you have it on you pretty much can't take it off too easily. If you do it leaves a black residue that you have to get out with baby oil which is rather sticky icky. Overall, though, it does the job so no complaints. Oh, but one more thing. Once you have the lid down and locked, if you sit on the lid of the toilet you will notice that it's off balance and if your heavy I think it's possible to break it that weigh so be careful. I'm about 115 pounds and Still don't feel safe sitting on it with the lid closed but not everyone does that so it may not be an issue for everyone.

Easy to install, bigger kids could pop it off
I actually got this to keep my cats out of the toilet after we moved and the new toilet lids are lightweight plastic. It works, however my lids and seats are thinner than the average and there’s a gap when it’s locked. I put a little foam to close the gap and it’s great. Best way to clean it is take it off and it has small crevices but a sponge works. Haven’t traveled with it but it would be so easy to. If I have the seat up I could just twist it off but it’s holding up when closed and locked. I like that there’s no adhesive to keep it in place so I don’t have to worry about leaving goo when I don’t need it anymore. If you have thinner lids like me and your kid is a little older and determined to get in there, they probably could but overall I think this lock works well and was a good price for that peace of mind.

Doesn't stay on toilet rim
Inside this package they give you spacers to fit the product to the toilet. Three spacers is too loose on the rim and four spacers is too tight. (The clamp won't fit over the top of the rim without snapping in half. The spacers fall off anyway.) It says in the directions that it'll work when slightly loose. Well, when it's slightly loose, it slightly POPS OFF the toilet. Isn't very useful when it won't even attach to the toilet. I refuse to spend extra money and time fitting adhesive or rubber onto the inside of this gadget. It's going back. I'll just close the bathroom door. It's free and guaranteed to work! Our toilet is a brand new American Standard--nothing out of the ordinary. Don't waste your time or money with this thing.
