HIGHPOINTSide Rail Hinge with Stay, Solid Brass, 1 Pair

First off, DO NOT BUY THESE IF YOU DONT HAVE A ROUTER. Even then they can be a challenge because the curved arm bracket. I thought these hinges would be nice for a toy stove I'm building, as they resemble real oven hinges. I really like the end result BUT I didn't trust them alone as this is a much bigger door than they were designed for and it swings down to open. I added a chain and now I feel a lot better. The door is hardwood too. I will say that I absolutely HATE the screws. They are #4 half inch brass screws and even with predrilling, they stripped many times. I have a stock of brass screws (and a good thing too because I went through all that came with the bracket) and I used as many as three on one hole. As soon as the screwdriver slips once just start with a new screw. Otherwise you cant back them out. Anyway, these are fun and a new challenge from the traditional hinge.

Hinge is well made, I twisted the head off a screw, but they provide extras. Make sure you apply consistent pressure when driving the screws.

The hinges are attractive and durable. However, even more than most hinge configurations, they are a challenge for a novice to install. Before box assembly, box corners to be eventually mitered can provide convenient access to drilling the required slot for the hinge stay. Once the lid is cut from the box and trim is applied to the box and lid, design a jig that fits tightly upon the box and creates a channel down the box side. Anticipate this step by making the thickness of the box side the same as the template guide OD. That template guide runs snugly down this channel to generate the necessary cut to accept the hinge. This same jig needs to be reversible so it can be snugly inserted into the top to rout the corresponding cuts.

Didn't fit the application I was going to use them for but I kept them anyhow in case I had a use.

Great hinge at a good price. Just as good as the brusso hinges which can cost $10 more per set. I make humidors/jewelry boxes and these are my go-to. Solid, strong stop with a good finish. I do like that the screws are brass plated steel. I like the idea of brass screws in the brusso hinges, but they are incredibly prone to shearing off. Brass plates steel is the way to go. Uses a 5/16" router bit to cut the groove for mounting.

Solid brass, through axle, smooth operation, all at a good price. The only thing that would have made this better would have been a router template/guide.
