Q: Would you recommend this bag for a 13 year olds ski trip to italy? I'll have to cope with being in the coache's hold with all the other 70 bags?

I took mine on an 8 day safari travelling acrss Kenya. It survived all of that. It did have some minor damage at the end but I was able to return. If your son is away for less than 8 days it should be fine. If it's badky handled during transit there wouldn't be nany bags that would survive.

Q: Is there a handle on this to pull

Yes there is and it seems very strongly attached to rest of bag. You need to make sure the bag is reasonably full to give it some rigidity but we have used ours 5 times now and now problems. Well worth it.

Q: I want to use this for hold luggage, what weight will it carry?

I have carried 20K but don't forget the handles are only sown on.

Q: Can I use this bag for international travel check in purpose?

You will need to check with Airline as luggage sizes and weights vary. We used it for travel get loads in it
