VallejoSurface Primer Color | USA Olive Drab 200 ml. (6.76 fl.oz.) | Matte Finish and Fast Drying | Perfect for Airbrushing and Great Adhesion to Figurines and Scale Models

When these Vallejo "primers" became available, I tried airbrushing this primer as a base coat to see if the much more affordable "big bottle" price and quantity made for more economical painting in my favorite 1/16 scale. (You know, the scale you can actually see.) Easy breezy airbrushing with great results!Now for painting metal, I use an etching primer (Rustoleum and others) under this Vallejo primer, but on plastic it can be both as primer and with another coat or two, as an overall base coat stand-alone or with other paints, pastels, washes, or enamel over it for camouflage or weathering effects. I cannot attest to the kind of accuracy of the color match once fostered by the expert Steve Zaloga, but it seems quite accurate, Besides any military model should replicate the effects of age and weather anyway. The review here is for Vallejo's Olive Drab, but the sames goes for the other primers: Dunkelgelb, Dunkelgrau, IDF, and more are available.

This primer has been a life saver! Paint on OR Air Brush - Works flawlessly. Currently as of April 2020 you can barely get any Games Workshop supplies, or basically any quality supplies. ENTER VALLEJO!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you are used to buying high quality paints and primers look no further than Vallejo. I just ordered a case of Vallejo Game Air for air brushing and I will be reviewing that as soon as it gets here.So lets go over the pictures. The first picture the left model is brush painted on and the two on the right are air brushed.The 2nd picture I gave "The Army Painter" White Matte primer a shot and boy was I disappointed. If you zoom in you can see the bubbling in the details. Pretty gnarly. I have been priming models by spray can for nearly 15 years, I know it wasn't me. To even give the primer the benefit of the doubt, I tried various techniques to improve the results. Longer and shorter distancing, shorter pulses, longer pulses, slightly warming the can in a water bath. Nothing worked. I either got a bad can, or this stuff just isn't that great. But Vallejo baby let me tell you. SMOOOOOOTH! We're talking Barry White smooth. I had never actually fired my airbrush rig up before until this stuff came, so for someone who was a complete noob to have such great results(not to mention you can brush it on and it's still FLAWLESS) speaks volumes for the quality of the brand. Never going back. VALLEJO FOR LIFE!!

this primer is acrylic and can bee used in an airbrush or painted on. it helps me a lot with WW2 American miniatures like armor, artillery and infantry

Ordered US Olive Drab, received IJA Kare Kusa green...NOT the same color.

Great paint for priming and base coating. Can be brushed on traditionally out of the bottle or thinned for airbrushing. Mixes well with other Vallejo paints to create different shades and will go a long way. Have not had any issues with it scratching off or being pulled off by masking tape. Just allow it to fully cure before taping or applying additional colors.
