This is very good for taking with you to work on.
It was a little hard to understand the instructions at first ,but I kept working at it and once I figured it out it was really easy and fun.If you get one and can't figure it out, DON'T give up. It will be one of those thing where you go, well that wasn't so hard or well why didn't I do that to start out with. And after you do get it figured out its really fun. You can also find videos online that can help you learn how to do it. Just do a search for How to french knit using a spool. It is also just the right size to put in a tote bag and take with you to appts or on trips too.

I should have gotten the small one
I love this thing, and I use it a lot, but the small one is easier to hold and turn. This one works exactly the same way, so it doesn't change my purposes. You can use as many or as few of the pegs as you want, just skip the others. I often use just 4, although there are 6 pegs. You don't get to choose the color but this time I got lucky and got the clear one. They are all transparent, I believe. The medium one is wider and taller than the small one, and it fills my hand (ordinary female hand). If you want to get one for a child, get the small one. If you're using really bulky yarn, get the large one. This one will work with regular yarn or thin baby yarn easily. You can even use cord, like hemp. I think you'll like this tool. These have been around for decades in various types of materials. You may remember using a thread spool with paneling nails for pegs if you're as old as I am, and I know they were around when my mother was a child. That puts it at around 80 years or so, and I think they were around a lot longer than that. This is a good tool, and the price is great. Delivery was fast, too.

Design could be better
well made, attractive to look at, sturdy, comfortable to hold, but there are better designs out there. I bought both the small and medium sizes. (There was no jumbo/large size available.) Neither one allows me to use bulkier yarns. The pegs are too short. There are other designs (also available through Amazon) that are easier to use. After the Susan Bates experience I went back to Amazon and bought the one with 8 pegs at the bigger end, 5 pegs at the smaller end. This design allows both fine and bulky yarns to be used. There are grooves in the pegs that help the metal tool get under the yarn to lift it over the peg, and the pegs themselves are shaped like crochet hooks so there is way less chance of both yarns slipping over the peg by mistake. This Susan Bates design just has short smooth pegs, so I experienced a lot of yarn slippage with it. My old childhood wooden spool with nails driven into it was actually more efficient to use than this one.

I bought this for a wire bracelet project
I bought this for a wire bracelet project but have practiced with yarn before using the wire to get used to how it works. I've never knit before but I will start now. It is very easy to use and sturdy also.

Adorable and Susan Bates quality
I have not done knobby Knitting since I was a child...76 years ago. Back then we used a WOODEN thread spool with 4 nails in it and a straightened bobby pin. THIS is a great modern way to get back to basics. I am making a rug for my doll house. Teach a child. When not in use, good place to stand your small scissors.

Perfect for teaching Middle Schoolers to knit
I purchased several of these to add to the options for my Middle School enrichment tutorial. 10 times a week, for 30 minutes, I get 25 to 40 6-8 graders to play with yarn! I have spools, rectangular looms, circular looms and needles. Every one gets to choose what they want to do. It is so much fun and productive chaos! These spools were a great purchase.

Not real sturdy
On my first use I noticed the post (nail heads) were bent on some of the posts. They will bust off the acrylic handle very easily.
