I found the unit as a whole long The power is great. Others I had would take a bit to get up to speed. This one is like a corded one, speed to cut when you press the button. Over all sturdy. Don’t get a bigger battery as will be to heavy and not balanced.

September 22, 2024 I assembled this machine on April 13, 2024 and started using it shortly thereafter. I bought it to replace my Echo SRM-225 which I have used since June 2013. I bought this particular EGO model after reading great reviews about it. Both devices are used solely at my home. As this is my first battery powered piece of lawn equipment, I wanted to see how it handled several concerns that I had upon making the switch from gasolene to battery power, the first being just how it handled generally. I have to say that it handles very well. It is noticeably lighter than my old Echo and significantly quieter. It does a very good job of cutting the grass in either standard trimming such as along a fence line as well as along mulched areas where I have to hold it upside down. As there are more mulched areas than regular in my yard this second position is important to me and the EGO does very well in both areas. I have to say however that the inverted position is a little more cumbersome to me, but not a deal breaker. The second concern was how the EGO would handle a roughly 920 square foot area beyond the back boundary of my yard that contains weeds alongside a farm field. I go back there several times each summer to clean up the area. The EGO is excellent in this wild service actually better than my gas-powered Echo. This machine really goes after it. There’s more than enough power. It did have some problems with some big (3/8” diameter) Queen Ann’s Lace that I encountered on my most recent time in the field, but for the most part it was up to the task. This is the service where it earned the “BEAST” moniker. The third concern dealt with the auto-feed feature of replacing the line. I’ve only had to do so once so far, but it worked slicker than snot. So much easier to replace than my old Echo ever was. My final concern was battery charge life. There’s more than enough charge in the battery to do my whole yard, including the wild area in the back to do everything on a single charge. It also only takes a short time to fully re-charge. I always do the trimming before running the mowers so when done I put the battery on charge while mowing. It’s always fully ready to go by the time I’m done mowing. I don’t need to keep it on charge when away from the garage. The battery holds the charge very well too. We’ve been having a drought, particularly over the last month or so and I’ve let it set for about 6 weeks. When I used it this past week there was more than enough charge to do the whole yard with no problem. I’m extremely happy with this machine.

My brother suggested this weed wacker and it didn’t disappoint. Powerful and seems to last as long as I need for my yard.

The only complaint is the battery (2.5 Amp hours) that comes with this unit only lasts 30 minutes. This is fine for smaller properties. I have a large area that takes between 1 and 2 hours to complete. My solution is to purchase a 5 Amp hour battery to use after the 2.5 Ah battery expires and placed on charge in case the 5 Ah battery expires before the job is finished.

I'm a firm believer that if you can decide on a specific brand of battery operated equipment, try hard to buy just that brand so you may interchange batteries and chargers where permitted by manufacturer. With this said, I stick with 2 brands that I've had excellent luck with and cover different areas of use mostly, just a little overlap. The 2 brands (I have no deal with these brands, just like them because of my experience with them) I believe in are DeWalt and Ego. In this case my latest purchase was this weedtrimmer. It has great features and I am very impressed with the power it has and how long it operates on a charge. My favorite feature is filling up the spool with trimmer line. Ego has made this process one of if not the easiest to do in the industry! It holds a lot of line and being battery operated, is nice and quiet. I live right along side a field and every once and a while I need to cut it back some to not interfere with my cutting of the grass in my own yard. When doing this, every once in awhile you run across a small whip of a start of a tree. Obviously the line isn't going to cut through this but it also doesn't stop the Ego. It just hammers away til I backoff and cut around these saps. This Ego unit is on the line between homeowner and commercial quality. It's highend homeowner and takes the same battery and charger that I already have for other Ego products like the Leaf Blower for example. Even if I would get a Ego 2 Stage Snow Blower some day, they all take the same battery and charger. So if you have a large project going on, and a battery runs out... you have more charged batteries to grab and go on with. In my opinion, one of the greatest features of sticking with a brand. In my own opinion I believe you get excellent value for your money buying these 2 brands. Oh, and as far as durability, my leaf blower was the first Ego purchase I made years ago and I'm still using it and the battery and charger that came with it!
