Q: Has anyone used this for sleeping? I currently use a recliner, but even that is becoming hard on my back.

We bought this specifically for my wife to sleep on when we travel at hotels. My wife is a large person and hotel beds almost never work for her because at home we have an adjustable bed so she can sleep semi-reclined and adjust throughout the night as needed. We tried it for the first time this last weekend and it worked for her VERY WELL. She needed some extra pillows on the sides because it's quite wide but no big deal. My largest reflections on this for you are that it's quite cold at night (the air gets underneath) and she needed a blanket underneath her and that I wouldn't use it as a permanent sleeping solution as I think it would break rather quickly but as a temporary/travel sleeping solution it's a pretty good one. It is fairly heavy for travel - around 50lbs? No problem for me, but if you're a small person or a person with disabilities it would be rough like my wife could never carry it. It fits well in the trunk of our mini-van.

"very heavy"?? You need to check out the weight limits on this chair. Description says "Supports up to 500 pounds" but a reviewer noted at 445 pounds the chair buckled. People weighing 300-350 pounds have bent gravity chairs. The added stress of heavy weight shimming to get out will likely cause damage to the chair. The tubing is 1 inch and not thick. So rather than risk injury maybe look at a more substantial chair.
