This is a high quality very durable product. It offers your dog great protection where it provides coverage. I would suggest this for use in stubble fields tall enough to touch dog’s underside. It doesn’t really offer much protection on the shoulders and chest of the dog, so if you have a brush buster like mine you may need to look for something with more frontal protection.

I have a rescue Catahoula Leopard Dog & Jack Russell mix who loves to run and hunt in the woods. After 2 accidents that required stitches (1 requiring a surgery 😷) I found this skid plate for her. Now her risk of injury is diminished greatly especially to vital areas. I can relax on our walks now and let her exercise her high prey drive in relative safety. (Squirrels be warned!)Bella weighs about 45 lbs and has short stubby legs. I ordered the medium. The straps are adjustable and it fits her odd shape great. I usually just have to rinse it off but on the occasion she gets into some mud I use Spray & Wash, let it set for a minute and scrub off with a scrubbing sponge, rinse and hang to dry. These are well made and haven't shown any wear and tear even with her daily 2 mile runs in the woods and thorns.Added bonus: The orange makes it great for safety during hunting season, "trying" to keep track of her as she runs through the woods and Bella just thinks it's her color. (My husband likes to call it her "50 Shades of Grey Bondage Vest" when she's wearing it but she doesn't care.)This skid plate is Bella Tested and Approved!

Easy to put on dog. Adds protection. Easy to clean. Large size is pretty diverse and could likely fit large range of dogs

I haven't had the chance to put this through the ringer yet, but the quality appears very good and it fits my lab very well (something you can't always expect in products designed to be worn by a dog). My lab is about 65 lbs but is somewhat slender for a lab (he's the field hunting bred type). He measures 29-30" behind the shoulder, and I think it was around 21 around the waist, and about 4" between the front legs, and the Medium size fit him PERFECTLY.My lab and I run a lot of HRC hunt tests, and I love Mendota products. They are well made and affordable. It seems everybody at hunt tests has at least one product from them, and it's no surprise, great products!

The products looks great, I had to return the first one because it was too small for my dog and was not aware there was a 15 restocking fee. Not real happy about a restocking fee.

Bought this for my Llewelyn setter for a bird hunting trip to northern Maine. It fit very well (medium, 42 pound dog) and protected her underside from the usual cuts and raw spots that come with heavy cover. Also, had no chaffing around the legs or straps. My son had an older version and did have some chaffing on his setter. The dog can be safely lifted by the straps if necessary. I recommend this product if you are looking for a good chest protector for your dog.

I got this after my dog came back from hunting with a gouge out of her chest. between that and the too many times I watched her run into partially hidden fences I knew i needed some protection for her. This came in real fast, fit her really well. she is a 60 pound lab and the medium fits her great. I like the open back so she does not overheat in the early months, and the construction gave her plenty of movement. It actually seemed that when she realized that she was not getting all beat up that she would really jump into the heavy stuff more eagerly than before. All in all, great product, great price.

I followed another post that said their 65lb short hair fit the medium perfect, so I ordered a medium to fit my GSP since my dog is the same weight. I guess my dog has a bigger chest because it is very tight and is at the maximum expanded length. Product looks good, buckles are tight and not too much covering to overheat the dog in the warm climate of Hawaii, but since it's too small I don't want to use it and have rubbing problems with it. I am posting the chart that came with the product for others to use for reference before ordering the product.

This skid plate has been a life saver. Our Griff barrels through the bush without a care. Her underside that isn't protected by the skid plate gets scratched up regularly. This product is fully adjustable, durable and dries fairly quickly for it being so dense. Pricey but worth it.

This chest protector really works for my poor dachshund who hunts rats and mice in the thorny underbrush and usually comes home bleeding from deep scratches. The sizes, however, are misleading. The picture on the package shows a tiny piece of orange stuck to the chest of a large black lab. That wouldn't work at all. I buy a size medium for my standard dachshund who weighs twenty pounds. Then I have to shorten the straps so that it doesn't hang down to the ground underneath her. When I do that, it extends high up on the sides of her chest and up higher in front to her throat. Then she is protected. She wears these out over the course of one year and I have to buy a new one. Washable and flexible. Watch that your dog doesn't get caught in barbed wire fencing, however, because this fabric and these straps will not break and the dog will not be able to get loose and come home. Don't ask me how I know this.
