Sylvania 15.6-Inch Swivel Screen Portable DVD Player with USB & SD Card Slot & Rechargeable Battery

I have never purchased a DVD player before and read many reviews before deciding on this one. I did good...this DVD player is great! The picture is easy to see because if its large size and the color is excellent. The remote control works just fine. The sound is quite good but I find I have to turn it up to between 15 and 18 (on a 20-point scale) to hear it well. I'm a little hard of hearing, so that isn't bad. I have a set of speakers from an old computer and I hooked them up easily, making the sound even better. You just set your speakers on the loudest setting and then use the remote or panel to adjust the volume. A splitter comes with the DVD player but I didn't need to use it with the speakers I have. I haven't used the card reader yet but I'm sure it works just fine. The player arrived in excellent condition; it was wrapped in a solid bubble-wrap type of packaging and a sturdy box. I don't think it would have been possible to damage it. I absolutely love this machine and highly recommend it. It lives up to every good thing I read in the reviews and on the product description. Also, Amazon had the best price. You will not be disappointed if you purchase this machine.

I have read all the complaints and praises of this player. I decided to buy one and put a Smart Guard Protection Plan on it in case anything went wrong.I saw my first move "Cloverfield" on it with all the fast motion camera and dark scenes.... it tracked everything well and nothing paused or got stuck. Color saturation on some dark scenes seemed a tiny bit orange in the faces.... but I promised myself I would wait to judge anything until I saw a better movie.... the next movie I saw reflected much better color and the light was excellent. The images were incredibly sharp....who needs Blue Ray with images this clear.Some people complained of hum... I heard a small amount when initiating the player but it either went away or insertion of my Sony MDR-G45 stereo earphones made all the difference.The sound was perfect. No drop outs, hissing, or over bearing bass tones. In fact, the sound was excellent.Others have complained it is too lightweight or flimsy. I agree it is lightweight but this provides a comfortable fit on anyone's lap. As to flimsy... I would have to disagree... it is durable and if handled properly will give you years of use.I even bumped the player with my knee while it was playing and nothing happened to the movie or player... it kept on playing.The player, which I had positioned on edge, on a carpeted area and supported by a briefcase, fell flat onto the carpet and no damage of alteration in playing was noticed.The lighting is excellent, the colors are brilliant and the sound is perfect when using a headset.This player is easy to use and the buttons are easy to click for volume or playing.I have no reason to use a swivel screen but it is there if I need it.In short, this is an excellent DVD player. The accessories are useful for charging the unit.I bought a 14 inch Case Logic Bag for the DVD player... it is a tight fit...I think they need to make a slightly bigger bag for this device.Now I see there is a 15 inch Sylvania DVD player that even plays MP3... I could have waited for the 15 inch player but am happy with the 13.3 inch I have.... I use an 18 inch HP Laptop all day and in confined quarters a 13 inch DVD player is not too big and not too small.I earnestly like this player and heartily recommend it to anyone.If you plan on slamming yours against a wall and running over it with a car wheel then maybe Phillips is the way you ought to go.But for me... This 13.3 inch Sylvania is perfectly suitable. Great Sound, Excellent Sharp Picture. Durable...buy it !Happy In the Cold Northeast....

The Sylvania SDVD1566 Portable DVD player arrived on time as promised. However the player was shipped only in it's original box that was opened and not sealed. Is this Pro Electro Corp standard practice or was it a rushed job to get it shipped. I believe that Pro Electro Corp should have had the consideration to ship the DVD player in a shipping box or at lease seal the original box before shipping it. Surprisingly all the contents was in box and the player works fine (for now). Somewhat disappointing.Besides the poor shipping the Sylvania SDVD1566 portable DVD player works really well. It would not recognize my MP4 video files on my USB flash drive. The icons for the MP4 files shows up with ??? on the screen and cannot be played. I have no problem playing AVI files. The player does recognize AVI and MP3 music files, both on CD, USB & the card reader.Overall the video and sound quality are very good and loud enough for me. I used headphones and speakers plugged into the headphone port and both sound really well.The controls on the player have a loud click sound when pressing them. The remote control is really small and for me it only works sometimes. The print on the small buttons is hard for me to read and the tiny buttons get stuck.Overall the Sylvania SDVD1566 portable DVD player is a good all around player and I do recommend buying it. I hope this review helps in some way.
