Are the Handles flexible? If not, how tall is the box including the handles?

Yes the handles are flexible, strong cloth type straps. Box is 17 in tall. I purchased 1 at first to see how they would work for my Byers Choice figures. It works great. Strong enough, will keep them clean, and you can stack them. In fact I have ordered several more. I have a lot of Byers Choice figures. A few of the figures are a bit bigger, but u can adjust dividers.

I received my box but not the nutcracker. Are they shipped separately?

Not sure what site you ordered from, but normally the Nutcracker is shown to the side of the box just to show size. I have ordered several of these boxes from different people and the order was only for the storage box, not any nutcracker.
