Description
- Length: 25cm 18g/pair
- Meterial: red sandal wood.
- It's a kind of chopsticks made with red sandalwood(Pterocarpus santalinus, in chinese, we call it"小葉紫檀"). Red sandalwood is one of the most valuable timbers in the world. Generally, people call the sandal trees which have bigger leaves “rosewood” and those with smaller leaves “red sandals”. The latter kind, we call it xiaoye zitan, is more precious. The color will get darker as time goes by, it's better to place in a cool and dry place. It absolutely a good collection, but please don't keep it as an ornament, and seldom touch it. The fact is, the more frequently the wood is rubbed, the shinier the wood will be. Just like the zisha teapot, it needs seasoning or nurturing.
Chopsticks originated in ancient China as early as the Shang dynasty (1766-1122 BCE),Chopsticks began to be used as eating utensils during the Han Dynasty. Chopsticks were considered more lacquerware friendly than other sharp eating utensils. It was not until the Ming Dynasty that chopsticks came into normal use for both serving and eating. They then acquired the name kuaizi and the present shape.
