It was great when it was working but after the update it will not connect with any of my Ipads.
I've owned the Anyscan A30M for over a year and thought it was great for the money. I used it with my IPad. I used it to help fix a couple of my cars and some friend's cars. The bi-directional and live data features made this a very useful tool and much better than most other scanners in the price range. The updates were free, without needing a subscription, which made this a very cost effective scanner. Then it just stopped working when I really needed it. It would not communicate with my Ipad. I went to the Xtool website but there was no mention of any problems so I thought it was a problem with my A30M. Since I liked the device so much and had a car with some issues, I immediately bought a new one but this new one had the same problem so I wrote to Xtool to tell them there may be a problem with their device. I learned the problem was caused by a software update. They emailed me that the experts were working on a fix and it will be working again in a couple of days. That was over two weeks ago and my new A30M is still not working with my Ipads. There was an update for the app (6.2.1) on the Apple store. I deleted my old version of the App and got the latest version but now It has a new problem. It gives a bluetooth failure error during startup. It still will not communicate with my Ipads. I have three Ipads and none of them can communicate with the A30M. I tried an old Samsung tablet that I had and I was able to get the A30M working. I still have a few issues even with the Samsung, but at least it works. It has been very frustrating trying for a couple of weeks to get it to work with my Ipads. If you have a Android tablet you may be in luck but if you want to use it with an Ipad you may have some problems. Xtool emailed me that everyone else have gotten their A30M working again (but not me). Such a shame for what was a once a fantastic tool. If they come up with a fix that actually works with an Ipad, I'll update my review. Update**** It works with my Ipad again. This after I bought a new Samsung tablet for the device. I couldn't wait any longer so I ended up buying the Samsung Tablet to get the A30M to work. I had not been able to use the device for about three weeks and I had a Jeep in need of repair so I bought an Android tablet. Xtool kept in touch and kept helping with my old Ipad and yesterday, after deleting the APP for the third time, rebooting my Ipad and reloading the App onto the Ipad, they finally connected. I was happy because I really like my Ipad Pro but after using both the Android and the Ipad, I think I'm going to keep using the Samsung because it seems to work a little better with the A30m. I also like the interface between the A30M and the Android (Samsung) better. I was very happy with the Xtool support. I think I emailed them just about everyday and they always answered back quickly. They never gave up trying to help. I'll rate the A30M 5 stars in the future if it keeps working. ***Update*** the A30M is still working great and Xtool keeps allowing me to update the software so I'm very happy and raised my rating to 5 stars.

Incredible Little Scanner
I've been using this on and off for about a year now and it's just been a solid performer. I've never had an issue where I cannot diagnose it with this reader. The diagnosis is always spot on and the readings are always accurate. The app is easy to use and so far I have not had a single issue with it. The built-in flashlight is a really nice touch and initially I didn't think I'd use it at all, but I actually do pretty often. I use an iPhone and the Anyscan app has been solid. I keep it up to date, and so far I've not been pestered to upgrade anything, nor have I notice any in-app advertising. I can do a lot of resets, I can look at live data, and I am able to scan most all systems with this, so in terms of value for the money, I'd say you really cannot beat it - it has a ton of functionality for the cost and the features of the more expensive solutions. I have several ODBII scanners, all of varying cost and functionality, and this is one of my personal favorites. The great thing about an app-driven tool like this is the size and portability of it. I keep this in my backpack and since I always have my phone, I always have a full-featured ODBII scanner on me as well. I really appreciate it on long road trips, just in case.

Great Scanner, Easy to Use, and Excellent Customer Support
The XTOOL A30M scanner has worked wonderfully for me. I have tested it on several brands, and it performs very well across the board. In general, code reading and live data visualization from different modules are excellent. I was also able to program a TPMS sensor on a Toyota Camry using this scanner, which was a big plus. Overall, this scanner offers a lot of functionality for its price. It is highly recommended for those who like to have a scanner at home with features that feel very close to professional-level tools. Additionally, the after-sales support was outstanding. I had an issue, and the support team helped me resolve it quickly, attentively, and step by step. Great customer service.

Best vehicle diagnostic tool in this price class
The XTOOL A30M has most (if not all) of the scan, monitor, and control functions to assist the home, or pro car mechanic to assess the condition of a vehicle's onboard diagnostic info, with the additional capability of testing / energizing critical components in assorted electrical subsystems. Whether preparing your car for state inspection, monitoring your vehicle for existing and potential problems, or troubleshooting specific vehicle functions, down to the component level, you will find this to be an extremely effective and portable tool to keep your vehicle in good running condition. It is also a great tool to flag problems, before purchasing that used vehicle! I have attached a typical use video, which showcases but a small fraction of this devices capabilities (there are many online videos that detail some of the A30M applications). As a retired engineer .. I hate reading manuals .. but I would recommend reading the XTOOL A30 manual to get a better feel for all the capabilities of this device (and to avoid setup problems). The XTOOL Anyscan app will work on most IOS and Android phones and tablets, but be aware that the base program requires over 1GB of storage on your smart device, with an additional 2GB to 6GB storage for the available vehicle make/model and special function downloads .. so don't go "crazy" trying to download all the update options (just download what you need)! As an operational heads-up ... the XTOOL Anyscan app can be installed on all your compatible devices, but the A30M bluetooth can only pair with one smart device at a time. If you happen to have more than one device with the XTOOL Anyscan app active (in the range of the A30M device) .. it may not pair up, properly. Note that some smart devices do not completely terminate a running app (even when you exit that app), so another device can still be trying to pair with the A30M. The quickest remedy is to use your unused smart device's Bluetooth setting to temporarily disable pairing with the A30M tool. The XTOOL A30M offers FREE lifetime updates (no strings attached, no credit card info, etc.) .. a terrific advantage over other products in this class. The breadth of the vehicle types covered is amazing, and the amount of bidiectional control options are a real time (and money) saver!

Every tech needs a "prosumer" scanner to augment the shop one, this is a great one!
I bought this and a Lenovo tablet and rugged cover to use it with, I'm a professional tech (master for 30 years, L1 for 16). This has some cons, I think for what you get it's worth dealing with them. Here are some of the features I really like and bought the tool for. The adapter is pretty nice, not just a rehashed ELM or some other Bluetooth, it has a light, seems to link up and have really good speed. It's bidirectional, and can mostly read every module on a vehicle (I'm in the USA so your experience may differ). It has an autoscan feature that works pretty well. I only get out a factory tool (or equivalent from a big name tool manufacture that costs 6000-9000 US) on occasion, normally I am just pulling a code, then running down some things manually, maybe taking a peek at pattern failures and making a plan of attack from there. I have fixed thousands of cars just with a cheap dongle in my top left pocket and my cell phone, but this has actual features. The autoscan is fast, you can connect, let it identify the car which usually works very well, do an auto scan, maybe take a quick peek at the data for some more info, then when you back out to the main menu save a report which you can email to a customer, or to yourself and prink out for the customer (which is what I do). It's pretty feature packed, does a LOT of what a higher priced tool can do. Data seems pretty good. Are there cons? Of course. The updates take a century to download and install. Sometimes the program itself freezes and you have to manually shut it down to get going again. There is no "Home" butten or link so to get back to the opening menu you literally have to hit the back button however many steps you are away from it, it's REALLY annoying and not well thought out. Some of the more simple tests or activations, e brake retraction etc, do not work well at all (sometimes they just don't). The "voltage" on the dongle... yeah just do yourself a favor and stick a piece of electrical tape right over that useless thing. It's ALWAYS wrong, and I verified this by testing voltage at the connector like ten different times, using a couple different devices (Power probe with a digital, DVOM, etc. Just don't let yourself be sucked down the rabbit hole because of that meter. Trust me I know! All the negatives aside, I don't think you can get a better unit for the price this sells for, and even less money if you already have a tablet, or you want to use a cell phone etc. I have old eyes so I got a tablet. Even with that expense this was totally worth the money. BUT, if you are looking for a professional scanner, this isn't really what you want. I got this to augment the good scanners and have a fast easy interface to get a partial read on what's going on on a better screen, get some bidirectional features, etc. Not as a go it alone scanner. But it's good.

The Best Budget, Bi-directional Scan Tool
I've been using scan tools for over 15 years, but until now, I could only justify using a standard OBD2 reader that provided ECU codes. While those are useful for troubleshooting, modern vehicles have many different modules that can't be scanned by a standard OBD2 reader. Not only can the XTool A30M scan those modules, it can also interact with them through it's bi-directional capability, allowing you to run tests and even actuate controls manually. So far, I have scanned these cars: 2007 Chevy Malibu 2008 Lexus RX350 2009 Nissan Versa 2013 Ford Focus 2016 Kia Cadenza 2020 Toyota Tundra I've included several screenshots that demonstrate some of the codes I've encountered. I downloaded the Anyscan app from the Google Play Store onto an inexpensive ONN Android tablet from Wal-Mart. It functions at what I would consider a normal speed when connecting to the vehicle computer. While some reviewers have complained about connection speed, I suspect that is related to the age of the phone or tablet they were using to run the app. The only issue I had was not being able to connect to the car immediately after installing the app. This was solved by rebooting the tablet and I have had no more problems since. Bluetooth range from the device to my tablet is around twenty feet, but is likely going to depend on your equipment's capabilities. In most cases, I'm sitting in the car or standing next to it, so range is not an issue for me. XTool customer service has been excellent, both before and after my purchase. They usually respond to emails within 24 hours and are courteous and helpful. This is a company based in China, and they have better customer service than many American companies. One of the main selling points for me was the free updates. The other two tools that I was considering provide one free year of updates and then you have to pay $60 to $100 per year after that if you want to keep your software current. That's not a big deal for a professional mechanic, but for someone who just wants to work on their own car, it seems like a lot. Also, there are some scan tools that only allow you to download updates for one or two vehicles, but XTool allows you to download all of the makes that you want to. I went ahead and downloaded all of the common makes in the US and it used about 10 gigs of storage on my tablet. About half of that space was from the files for VW, BMW, and Mercedes. I've had this tool for several months and there have been many updates available during that time for the makes I have installed. Overall, the A30M and the Anyscan app are easy to use. The tool itself feels well-built and solid. The voltage display does not reflect actual battery voltage, but that's not a problem for me as I will have already checked it with a multimeter. This is an impressive tool and I have recommended it to several friends.

OBCD2 Tool with Easy-to-use App Interface, Lots of Capability, except the one I needed
$120.84 - OBD2 Scanner Diagnostic Tool XTOOL Anyscan A30M V2.0, 2025 Wireless Bidirectional Scan Tool with Free Updates, 26 Resets, All System for Android & iPhone, Crank Sensor Relearn, EPB, Throttle Relearn Pros: - Excellent downloadable app with a great user interface; excellent reports that can be saved/emailed - Tons of features and capabilities; lots of vehicles and coverage; live data - No subscription! - Clean app interface; easy to navigate; no extra "advertisement" or unnecessary graphics Cons: - Can not perform the zero point calibration for 2004 4runner, but will trigger the symptom when it scans - The Display on the tools shows you the software version I guess; Unless you use an OBD extension cable, you really won't see it; more of a gimmick I think. - Does require a registration for the app I really wanted to keep this product. The App interface is super straight forward. No subscription. Lots of capability with newer vehicles. I probably should have kept it for my 2012 and 2016 vehicle. But on my 2004 4runner, it will trigger the loss of the zero point calibration when it "scans" the vehicle. I have to use the manual paper-clip method to recalibrate the sensor. I've gone through several OBD2 Bi-directional tools and only found one that has the zero point calibration reset...and this isn't it. I may come back to it if I need to ever do anything with my newer vehicles. The misleading "vehicle coverage" page led me to think it had the capability I needed.

Decent mid range ODBII scanner, with library of tools to set up various functions.
Great tool, provides access to expansive areas of diagnostic. But, it's proprietary so no other software can use this tool. There is no dashboard, so if you want access to quick real time you need another tool and software. Software gives ability to access specific reports, or let the software do the work for you and scan it all. My dodge, apparently has only a handful of functions that can be programed. But rather than organize that its scattered, buried, and not memorized. I have to dig through the various advanced tools viewing what seem to be litteraly the same function, in order to find a reset or program ability. It's too bad there is no way to organize and summarize the tools. The reports are nifty and easy to export once you have them up on the screen, but you cannot generate a custom report. They are category specific or generalized to the entire diagnostic. That is I cannot ask the tool to grab a copy of everything and export. There are some MFG specific configurations, and data I would live to export for printed records, but they are view only. You can within tight limits generate a custom monitor. This lets you grab throttle, or tire pressure data over time. But you are limited to 8 channels, its not sticky, it stops the moment you exit the viewing space. You cannot combine monitors. So the limits are really tight. I purchased this to get access to TPMS and ABS. After some time I was able to view the ABS data through a diagnostic mode. No advanced way in. Then reset the DTC only from diagnostic. TPMS, shows functions for my make and year that cannot be used? Requires an update to the TPMS firmware? Dealer says, no update available. To view TPMS data, ie real time I have to exit the advanced tool and go back to diagnostic... To do any configuration work or setup UI have to leave diagnostic and go back to advanced... Lotta back and fourth for things that could easily be linked for far greater productivity. Never mind the things I cant do... My last peeve is how even after everything is drilled down to specific categories and functions. None of the data is sampled in entirety in real time. So the 4 or so lines on the screen are all you get. Scroll even one line and you have to wait for it to refresh. Don't get me wrong I love the tool and there is a lot to use. But the limits hit right when you tray to actually do work. Connectivity... Seems to link up fine with all systems. Not sure there is anything it cannot read. But just because it can read the data doesnt mean it can edit it. And there is so much. Lastly I have been seeing a new error that was never reported on the previous ELM tool, and I suspect its caused by the A30M, its a LIN 1 error, which is basically a bus communications bug. I think the tool is the cause because I have not found any sensor that is not reporting. Note, first use the software installs pretty quick. You will use the card included to get the credentials needed to register and activate the software. Then it will need another 20-30 min to download the modules. You can ignore them, but that means no advanced functions until they are installed.
