Best Sunless Tanner Available!
Yeah, I did my time in the evil tanning beds. I spent years in them before wising up. Since then I've been using sunless self tanners for about 10 years. As a woman in her 40's, I just can't risk high levels of sun exposure on my fair skin anymore. After trying several products, I landed (like most who use self tanners) on Jergens Natural Glow. The positives are: it works well, blends easily, and doesn't smell quite as bad as other brands. The cons? It still does very much have a smell, it takes a while to dry, and it can take a week of daily use to build up the level of tan I am happy with for summer months. Flash forward to Saturday last week. It's shorts weather here in Texas and my poor old lady legs are pasty white. I took to Amazon to order the tried and true Jergens, but quickly realized the sunless tanner market has really blown up. I think I read reviews on 12 different new products before settling on what is now my favorite tanner of all time (so much so I think I would have a breakdown if they closed shop). DRUM ROLL........... Skinerals Organic Skin Science - Californium Sunless Bronzer This attached photo of the single brown leg is one minute after application. No filters or editing have been applied to this photo (other than I cropped out my old lady knees). Y'all, this stuff is like a little miracle in a bottle. Why I Love It 1) It is a foam in a pump (think foaming hand wash). 2) It has almost no smell at all (if any it is just a light organic smell, but it isn't a bad smell at all!). 3) It works INSTANTLY! Yes, you heard that right. As soon as you smear this stuff on, you are brown. It does develop and get darker over the following few hours. Other reviewers are saying they can go anywhere from 5-10 days between applications. UPDATE: I have found that to be true as long as I moisturize daily. 4) It does NOT make you look orange and that is a big deal for us ivory skinned folk. 5) It is completely dry within a few minutes. UPDATE: If you are sweaty or plan to get that way, do not apply right before bed or wear light colored clothing the same day. The color will wash out of fabric, but it will show in your clothes the first day. Skinerals as well as other reviewers recommend applying it using a sunless tanning mitten (which I ordered), but it hasn't arrived yet. So, I just put on some latex gloves and had at it. UPDATE: I got my mitten and it makes a world of difference. I also bought a lotion applicator for my back. It sorta looks like a back scrubber on a stick but is a foam pad instead. OK, I'll admit I really should have waited for the mitten. That said I was still able to apply the Skinerals evenly and over large areas at a time. Other reviewers recommended applying Vaseline to rough spots, toes, backs of knees etc., so I did (and I am glad!). I had no problem blending around the Vaseline. UPDATE: Apply Vaseline EVERYWHERE that you think the tanning solution might "stick", because it will. I also got a paper towel to "buff out" spots that seemed blotchy to me. The blotchiness is not a product defect. It was me being impatient and not waiting for that darned mitten. Nevertheless, it came out looking gorgeous in the end. I am not one to review products, but I just couldn't help but share the love on this. It is a great find and you really need to have some in your summer beauty stockpile! UPDATE: I had a brilliant idea to use this stuff on my eyebrows (photo attached). Dang, I didn't think this stuff could get any better! UPDATE 5/2/17: I've started using this as a contouring bronzer for my face. Saves me quite a bit of time during makeup application. Apply using a foundation sponge. UPDATE 4/18/17: My legs are still looking reasonably tan. I think tomorrow will be reapplication day (I think that puts 7-8 days between application). I have to add an additional praise; this stuff fades EVENLY. If you've used Jergens Natural Glow, you know that when it starts fading that it starts looking spotty. This Skinerals formula does not do that at all. I'm not spotty and the faded tan still looks even and nice! *NOTE: I paid full price for this item, I was not compensated for this review, and no one asked me to review the product. This is my own, unbiased opinion.

My new go-to self tanner for sure!
I am so glad I purchased this self tanner! I absolutely love it! After researching what seemed like hundreds of different brands and hundreds of different reviews, I finally decided on Skinerals Californium self tanner. I also ordered the Skinerals application mitt as well separately. When I received my shipment it contained two bottles. One was the empty application bottle as you see in the photo. The other was a clear bottle with a tightly sealed lid containing the tanning liquid itself. There was a brightly colored note explaining that my product was shipped this way in order to prevent any liquid from seeping out into the package due to shipping, package damage etc. The note also explained that all I had to do was pour the liquid from the clear bottle into the application bottle which was very easy to do. I went to the link provided on the enclosed card to read instructions on how to best apply this self tanner. My first application, I used the Skinerals self tanning mitt which I think made a huge difference (for the better)! I love that the product comes out as a foam. It is a darker color when applying, which I liked because I could actually see what and how much area I was covering. I noticed there was no smell like most self tanners have, which I can't stand! I immediately noticed darker skin right after application. I applied the tanner about an hour after my bath. I exfoliated my skin very well, which is key! I allowed the product to dry which was fairly fast. I got a little nervous about an hour after application as I felt the color was starting to look a little orange. But an hour after that it was a very beautiful golden brown. A natural looking tan. I went to bed a couple of hours later. The next morning there was no staining noticeable on my sheets, and still no yucky self tanner smell! The tan color held up very well overnight and my legs were still a very golden brown. I will definitely be buying more of this product as this will now be my go to self tanner! I absolutely recommend this product!

Holy Grail Self-Tanner? Almost, but not quite...
So, I've waited until I've finished my first bottle of Skinerals in order to write this review. I will preface this by saying that I am extremely fair-skinned with no ability to tan, and have tried numerous self-tanners (multiple drug store varieties, Tan Towels, St. Tropez, Tarte, Tanceuticals, VersaSpa, Dr Dennis Gross Glow Pads, Xen-Tan, etc). In order for any self-tanner to give you good results, I've found that you should use the following tips: 1) Apply to freshly bathed skin (2) While bathing, use exfoliant/scrub on any body part you plan to tan, (3) Moisturize area (those in-shower moisturizers that rinse off in the shower are nice and quick). (4). You must apply with a mitt (I like the Famous Dave one, SO much better than the St. Tropez ones). Theres pre-tan prep steps will help minimize streaking and blotchiness in whatever tanner you use. I've found that what I look for in a tanner is: 1)Color quality/ tone, natural look (2) Scent (hate that DHA smell!) (3) Does it rub off on clothes or sheets? (4) How long does it last? I've also found that I prefer foam application and definitely need the color guide for instant tan and to know if I'm applying it right. Have I found the holy grail: natural color, smalls good, doesn't rub off on my sheets, and lasts super-long? Nooo, not yet. BUT, Skinerals has a lot of pros that put it currently at the top of my self-tanner list. 1) Is it natural looking? YES. Not orangey fake. A nice subtle bronze glow. I only tan my legs and since I'm so pale, an overly-dark color on my legs looks weird in contrast to the rest of me. In fact, my 13 year old daughter just told me today that she likes this tanner on me and that is the most natural one I've used. If you're naturally darker than I am, you may do better with the Onyx shade (I use Californium) 2) How does it smell? It wins for being the best-smelling tanner I've used so far, nice apple scent going on, very pleasant. Does it smell like DHA? Unfortunately ALL tanners smell that way BUT Skinerals takes longer for that stink to develop, and it is noticeably less strong than the others I've tried. I notice it, but I don't feel it's so offensive that everyone around me can smell it (unlike many others). And the smell only lasts until you wash it off the first time. 3) Does it run off on clothes and sheets? This is a big one for me. I sleep on a latex mattress which must be hot so every tanner I've ever used sweats off onto my sheets every single night (i.e. the whole week after I've applied it). By the end of the week my white sheets look gross and I have to soak them in bleach before washing them. This happens with every tanner for me, no exceptions, no matter what any other customers' experiences have been. And yes, this happens with Skinerals too. However, I think it may do it somewhat less intensely than others I've tried. I don't think it stains my clothes as badly as other brands either. So in this category, better than the rest but still not what I am looking for in my dream tanner 4). Does it last? I'd say this is the category for me in which Skinerals performs the worst. Many other tanners including St Tropez, Xen Tan, and Versa Spa can last me a solid 5 days with some minimal tanner remaining on that 6th day. I prefer only to tan once a week. With Skinerals though, the fade is more rapid. Every day after day 1, there is a noted decrease in color. I would say that day 3 is more equivalent to day 5 of the others. Day 4 is the last day I have any color at all and by Day 5 I'm back to my totally pale self. This is even with me not shaving or scrubbing my legs. If not for this fact, I'd be satisfied enough with features 1-3 to stick with Skinerals. For now it's my favorite and I'll continue to use it, but will keep looking for that Holy Grail!

An awesome self tanner!
I’ve tried a lot of self tanners, but this one has consistently been a favorite for me. It gives a rich, natural color. The smell isn’t bad. I put it on at night and shower it off in the morning and it never stains sheets. The tan lasts several days. Highly recommend!

Not worth price smells bad and is hard to use
Returning, not worth the high cost. Every time I use this tanner I dislike it more and more. Last time I used I ended up so frustrated I wiped it all off. Update: I now have applied this product 2 times. The first time I had some splotchy areas as it seemed it absorbed into my pores on my legs more then the skin. I do not think a mit would make any difference in how my skin absorbed the product. I was super bummed that after 20-30 min that dreaded fake tanner smell started. It has no sent when applying. The fake tanner sent isn't quite as strong as other products but it's not plesent either. I Personally am very sensitive to smell so this was an important feature of this product to me. It also will leave some color on your bed sheets, I tried to wait until it was no longer sticky feeling but that never went away until I showered the following day. The second time I applied exactly the same way I did the first time with the gloves. I did this about 3 days after my first try. I didn't get as much splotchy spots, I think my pores were already tinted from the first time. It's a tiny bit orange on me but I am quite fair. If I applied it heavy it would look orange. I will keep using it since it's already open product and I still prefer a bit orange, smelly, cruelty free and vegan over really stinky and not animal friendly other fake tanners. Original: I JUST got done applying this product! I'm pretty nervous as some area look splotchy on my calfs. Quickly I live in Hawaii but I'm haole with pretty fair skin and med blonde hair, sun is not my friend in short intense burst. I tan well if I'm in sun for days and can do it slow but that's also terrible for my skin. With that I try to use fake tanners to boost what little color I have. I use tanners mostly on my legs. I've used many brands and types of tanners since I was in high school. Never have found one that I want to buy again. Cheap ones always smell sooo bad or make me itch. High end ones still smell and turn orange. I recently renewed my personal pledge to use only cruelty free and vegan product that are related to beauty, that's how I found this product. Pros- shipped in decent time frame, sealed well in package, came with nice color print outs of other products made by company, a coupon, and 2 little trial size products. Simple directions, I used medical gloves to apply to keep my hands from turning orange. A little of the product goes a long way. I did 2 pumps and had way too much for one calf. No bad smell just light sent when applying Cons- was a little hard to rub in, wasn't sure I rubbed enough or too much? Has only a light color when applying that makes it hard to know if it's blended well. I'm really unsure how well I blended even after coming back with damp towel to buff the creases and joints. Saw on my calf that seemed like pigment picked up in small splotches ??? I blended that area well. Seems a little sticky not dry feeling even after 20 min

AWESOME sunless tanner foam!!!! And I LOVE that this is organic and easy to apply with NO streaks!!
I LOVE this self tanner. It is SO EASY to apply and it lasts about 5-6 days. I initially bought the beauty by earth sunless tanner lotion. I liked it, but it didn't make me very tan, and I had to reapply every 3 days. The drying time for lotion is a longer too (15-20 min to dry). This tanner made me have a beautiful tan in 1 application and lasted much longer. It also dries within about 5 minutes. Everyone has asked where I started tanning and when I tell them about this product they hend up buying it and loving it too! It is such a better alternative to tanning or having it sprayed on. There are some tips I have learned though. Shave the day before application and if you use a sugar scrub... use it the day before as well because the oil in the scrub can prevent you from getting very tan. If you use an exfoliating glove or sponge, you can apply the tanner the same day. Shower before the application. Before application, apply a decent amount of body cream to your feet, ankles, achilles tendon area, knees, elbows, and hands. Then use an applicator mitt to blend in the sunless tanner starting with your lower legs and moving up. Don't apply the foam to your hands or feet until the end. When applying to your back, place the mitt over something on a stick (I used a back lotion apllicator) and rub into the upper back you couldn't reach (you also have someone apply it for you). Whatever is left on the mitt I apply to my face. I don't add any extra tanner to the mitt. MAKE SURE you rub INTO your hairline around your face, the back of the neck, and behind the ears. This will make it appear more natural. I then wash my hands and apply fresh lotion to my hands then rub what is left on my mit into my hands and between my fingers (not to your palms). I also use a q-tip that is wet with water and rub it under my nails so they aren't stained. Make sure you apply body cream or lotion EVERY DAY to make then tan last longer. The one bad thing about this sunless tanner is it can make your skin dry. Since I lotion every day I haven't had any problems. I hope this review helped and I hope you love it as much as me. I am very pale and this has given me an organic natural glow.

I don't have a before but picture the palest skin ever
This is a wonderful self tanner! I am very very fair with a neutral undertone. I've used a ton of stuff and was previously using b.tan darkest tan possible and minetan. I didn't realize how much artificial dye in toxic stuff was in it. I switched to this and I'm really happy I did. It goes on like a dark caramel brown. It develops pretty quickly and stays on nicely. You definitely need to Make sure You've exfoliated a little and I don't recommend moisturizer before. It doesn't seem to take as well. It goes on pretty evenly but even if there's a couple areas that seem not perfect once it develops it looks even. I put it on the first time and felt like after I showered it didn't look quite as fresh so I put it on again without exfoliating and it looks awesome. I think I'm going to stick with this one.

Harmful ingredients in this product are dangerous
This product should not be used if you are worried about ingredients. The 3rd ingredient is propylene glycol, one of the WORST ingredients in the whole cosmetic industry. This product should not be used if you are worried about ingredients. I ordered it and I am sending it right back. The side effects of Propylene glycol include irritation and sensitivity to the eyes, skin and mucous membrane and many more. It is found in many industrial and commercial products, including antifreeze, liquid laundry detergent solvents and paint. It is an additive in human and pet foods, pharmaceuticals and tobacco processing. Here is what Honey Colony says about it “Odds are you wouldn’t eat something that includes the same ingredient – propylene glycol – found in antifreeze, paint, and plastics. Yet this chemical compound is mixed into thousands of processed food items as well as certain medicines and cosmetics — even the food our pets eat. Propylene glycol (PG) is a petroleum-based, colorless, creamy liquid with a faintly sweet taste; it’s used as a solvent to absorb extra water or maintain moisture in certain medicines, cosmetics, and food products. It has been the focus of controversy ever since its introduction in the 1960s. You can find it in Valium, Dunkin Donuts flavored ice tea, Windex, Right Guard Deodorant, Glade Aerosol, Liquid Nails, Jergens Skin Moisturizer, Cover Girl mascara, Clearasil, Lysol antibacterial hand wash, Noxzema, Colgate toothpaste, and Nilodor Deodorizing Ferret Shampoo.“ It also contains Phenoxyethanol, which is a preservative that is primarily used in cosmetics and medications. It also can depress the central nervous system and may cause vomiting and diarrhea. (from the website truth in aging). It also contains fragrance, which is just plain bad in any skin care product. This is what they say 'Our mission is to create products that can manage and repair skin, and lead to a healthier, natural approach to beauty.
