Wonderful Vegan Dog Food
Our current two dogs have been strict vegetarians, like us, for a long time, as have our previous five dogs. We supplement this with veggies and fried tofu or cheese slices or cottage cheese or tofurkey slices for variety. I often use the canned product to create a kind of gravy for our older dog. We mix it with the Natural Balance kibbles and might add a little canola oil, peanut butter, soy sauce or nutritional yeast or yogurt for variety. It’s a great product to have on hand to simplify meals for our canine companions. It also is not very watery so you get a decent amount of nutrition. Just to point out: Dogs can be healthy and live to be quite old on a vegetarian diet. Pumpkin lived to age 14, Flora , a black lab mix, to age 16, Sebastian, a pug rescue, to age 15, Oliver and Harvey, both pugs, to age 13 and 14. Now Levi and Honey, both from Green Mountain Pug Rescue, are thriving on a vegetarian diet. Dogs are definitely able to do very well without meat as l know from almost 50 years of having dogs on vegetarian food only.

No longer a fussy, gassy, bloated, sleep-deprived little dog
Over the years my husband and I have really run the gauntlet when it comes to trying to help our poor little fussy, gassy, bloated dog to feel better. She has tried so many different special foods (for digestion, for weight control, for old age, sensitive stomachs) and with each new food we carefully introduced it into her diet with high hopes that this would finally be the one to help her, but we were always met with the same result of either maintaining her level of problems or increasing them.A few months ago she was feeling worse than ever and it was affecting her sleep so badly that she would just fuss all day and all night long. She would beg us to take her outside and we would take her for the longest walks (miles and miles) and she would either have diarrhoea throughout the walk or she wouldn't be able to get anything out at all. Either way, despite the lengthy duration of her walks, the moment that we had brought her back inside she would start desperately asking to go back out again. She also threw up regularly (even when she was on sensitive stomach food) and it would keep her up all night. The poor thing was getting next to no sleep. On top of that, she would go to her empty food bowl (after eating her full daily serving amount and then some) and would scratch at it and beg and plead for more food even when she was clearly too full already.Out of sheer desperation and desire for her comfort and our peace, I decided to try putting her on a vegetarian diet.I did all my customary extensive research and am extremely happy with the choice that I made! Her improvement was immediate and has lasted for the entire two months that we've had her on the food so far.It is truly remarkable! Her behavior changed in less than a day! Her walks last a pleasant and satisfying amount of time, she gets her business done right away (firm and normal), she sleeps through the night, she is generally peaceful throughout the day. Her bloating has gone down significantly and she is even starting to lose weight despite the fact that the food isn't even "diet".Here is what I've been feeding her:Halo Vegan Garden Medley Stew for Dogs (dry food)andNatural Balance Vegetarian Formula (canned wet food). It's is actually vegan as well, not just vegetarian.I use half the daily serving amount of each kind (so that the sum total per day is one full serving of food) and combine the two together thoroughly. Also, I split her food up into two feedings a day which means that each serving of combined food equals half of her daily serving size.I cannot stress enough the improvement that this food has made in her quality of life!I'm so happy for her and I highly recommend either or both Halo Garden Medley Stew and/or Natural Balance Vegetarian Formula!

Best Non-Organic Dog Food
Adopting an abused 2 year old Shih Tzu has been an interesting experience for our family over the past few months. We started Aggie out on Trader Joe's kibble, believing this to be an acceptable, more natural product for both our dogs. Aggie could never digest the TJ's product, so I began researching what doggie naturalists were feeding their dogs. And, it looked like the raw meat diet was the way to go and definitely no grains. This went great for about a month untill we got a bad batch of premade raw dog food (super expensive @ $60/week) and had terrible projectile poo and throwup for 3 days each! So, I said, forget this.. not worth it. Next, my research brought me to Acana/Orijen Brand(s). I still feel this is probably the highest quality kibble out there, but after 4 weeks of runny poo on this brand, I realized my little shih tzu just couldn't handle such rich food. My other dog, a chow chow did fine on it but didn't really care for the flavor all that much. The quest for answers continued until I came accross information on Dick Van Patten's web site for his dog food line: Natural Balance. I didn't realize that some dogs can be allergic to meat. For example, chicken is in nearly all dog food, and after a couple of generations (just like soy and wheat with humans), dogs are becoming sensative to chicken as an ingredient. The VERY FIRST DAY I put Aggie on their Duck and Potato Formula (grain free too - I love that!), her poos hardened up and no more bile throw up in the morning. She's been on it now for 10 days, and it has been a wonderful experience - changing all our lives. Though I have to say she doesn't run to the food, but she eats it when she is hungry. Now, our other dog, our Chow Chow begs for it. I've begun mixing the Orijen kibble with the NB canned, and she eats her entire meal right up. I will be transitioning my chow to NB as soon as her remaining Orijen is consumed. Love, Love, Love this product.
