If you have problem running this game, please read
I ran into all the problems pointed out by all the reviewers here. Then I finally found a solution. Follow the installation instruction on this link, it's the THQ support website, and all your problems will be solved.[...]It works for XP, Vista and Windows 7 (I have Windows 7).Hope this helps. This game is a good price and you can buy it with confidence now.

Fool me once...Fool me twice, shame on me
A couple of buddies of mine have it and rave about how much fun the online vs game is so I ordered it. There are 3 positives I will comment on: (1) prompt delivery, which you always get being a prime member; (2) the cost of the game; and (3) customer service. The rest of this review isn't so positive. As I mentioned earlier, the game arrived quickly, but to my surprise it was not shipped in original plastic game box packaging with instruction book, etc. The game, instead, was packaged in a (broken) jewel case, with a "quick reference keyboard shortcuts" printed on copier paper, slipped inside a cardboard sleeve, picturing the "Supreme Commander", and shrink wrapped tight. I installed the game which took nearly 30 minutes, and that's on my vaio intel core2 duo P8700(2.53GHz), 1066MHz FSB, 3mb L2 cache and 8gb of ram. Once finally installed, I went to run the game and got an error message saying "program will not run, wrong disc inserted". Ironically, although not unusual, there is only 1 disc included to the game. I called and informed I was sending the game back and was told that I will have a replacement by the next day. The replacement arrived promptly as promised the next afternoon and was waiting on me when I got home from work. I was feeling better about my purchase. I tried running the game from the previous installation using the new disc and got the same error message. I then uninstalled the previous and re-installed using the new disc, went to run the game and got the same error message once again. It is not the hardware; I know this because I used my buddy's game and it ran perfectly, even from the previous installation. Needless to say I CANNOT recommend this game--at least the way it comes from Amazon--to anyone and warn you to purchase at the risk of having to send the game back at least once and hopefully not twice.

Doesn't work on a new Dell quad-core Vista machine...but does on XP machine.
Update December 22, 2009.Dialed all the video parameters down to "low" and now the game is playable.Update December 9, 2009. I discovered to my embarassment that my old Dell Optiplex has a 256 Mb video card, so I installed this game on that machine and after surfing the Web and finding the comprehensive patch, it does run without crashing or any errors. The problem is now that it runs so slow it isn't fun. This is a 2 Ghz machine with 2 Ghz of memory, and this thing runs so choppy I've given up. It's like everything I do has a one second delay. And, this game doesn't look like it's doing much at all. It doesn't look at complex as Command and Conquer version 2, or Emperor of Dune, or any one of a number of beautiful games I've played in the past and enjoyed greatly on late 1990s computers. What a letdown. Here's hoping for the next version of this game due out in March. So, I've got this new Dell XPS420 machine with Vista, a quad core chip, and 3 gig of memory.I install this thing, and the first time I hit the "play" button, I get a message telling me to insert the original disk, which is weird because the original disk is still in the drive from where I installed the game. Then, I download the comprehensive patch from the support site and the patch installs, and the game at least gets through the titles to the main menu, and now I get a certain application error every time I start a campaign, except once. It actually worked once and I got to try the tutorial for a while, and then it never worked since. So, if you want a great "deal" for something that looks real cool but in all likelyhood won't work, then this is the deal for you.

DOES NOT WORK
This is an awesome game, when it works, but THE GAME WILL NOT RUN. At least, not at first.I tried the patch mentioned here -- didn't work. Applying no CD hacks and mini disc images also didn't work. After going to the game's website and downloading a patch, I was able to play.Keeping at one star, because this is ridiculous. You shouldn't have to run around the Internet downloading random files in order to make a game function. There's another Supreme Commander listed with high reviews. Try that one instead -- the extra cost is worth it.

Wrong CD error
After installation I recieve the following error that makes the game unplayable.Wrong disc inserted. Please insert the original "Supreme Commander" CD/DVD.I get this error despite the fact the game only comes with 1 disk. This game is not worth the hassle. Stay away.

Use a Disc Image
I bought this $10 value edition today from a local store, and came onto amazon and saw the terrible reviews it had and had to find out why. I also after installing had the insert disc error. But this isn't a hard fix people! Just use a disc image software like Alcohol 120% or Daemon Tools and browse the web for a mini disc image, they take no space and emulate the disc in drive, so the game now launches no problem. In the end I'm happy, I only need the disc to install and can just shelve it after that. This was definitely $10 well spent on a great RTS experience.
