Why so cheaply made when they used to be great??
So Sad.... I had one of these for years that was the workhorse around the house and workshop. It had power and was reliable. The switch broke on it so I replaced with a heavy toggle switch and ran it for many more years. Finally all the drywall dust and fine powder got to the motor and it froze up. SO, I thought I'd get another one just like it. Well, this one IS NOT IT!! This one has power and suction, but the switch won't stay on. Once you finally get it on, you can't easily get it to turn off. The switch is run by a couple push buttons that are as cheap as you can get. The motor already sounds like it's got bad bearings/bushings. It growls and will probably start squealing soon. I know everyone makes products in China, but usually quality improves over time, this one hasn't. I am very disappointed with the vacuum. It works just well enough that I can still use it, but I don't think I'll go with Shop-Vac anymore. Too cheaply made.

Shop-Vac Wonder
Unpacked and used immediately in rental townhouse basement (construction clay dirt & construction dust). Hugs the floor tightly to remove debris, dirt and dust. Powerful, yet lightweight unit. Cleaned years of leaves, cobwebs and dirt from garage. Hint: Tilt the accessory tool forward as though you are sweeping towards you & its a miracle. My daughter said "that shop-vac is worth its weight in gold". I think so too. Compact for storage. Have not used as wet vac, but anticipate it wll work as well as dry vac since the suction is powerful. Another great feature--the hoses don't disconnect when using as in many other vacuums that I've purchased over the years. I highly recommend.

Gets clogged easily!!
So after much research and reading reviews, I decided to purchase this Shop Vac!I am very disappointed and will never buy another one of their products. This was a contractor rated shop vac and I purchased it to be able to clean up dog hair in my house. To me, not a huge undertaking considering I have used ones that clean up plaster and other bits of rough material!I have used this shop vac 3 times- yup 3 times since I purchased it- why.... because the tube gets clogged with dog hair and no longer sucks anything and due to the location of the clog I have to find a long metal rod to jam in the tube to clear the blockage.I have a 10 year old bissell that does better then this vac.Beyond Mad!!!

good little workhorse
I am a painting contractor and I use these for dust clean-up and hooked up to a buzz sander to keep the dust to a minimum. I also hook them up to a drywall sander. If used without filter bags, they last me about 6 months. With high-efficiency bags in them, they last about a year and a half. Note that they are sometimes run continuously for 8 hours, and most of the time are just abused intermittently throughout the day, 5 days a week. I used to pay $49 for them, but they have gone up to $79 for this Right Stuff model. The 6 gallon Shop-Vac sold at Ace Hardware is still $49, but it is garbage.Depending on your needs, this is a highly portable, relatively quiet, economical little workhorse. It wont break your back, but it doesn't have a 2" hose for picking up small pets.Update 6/26/13:the thin little wheels seem to get stuck in joints and crevices and break the cylinder that they are attached into on the legs. these used to have a wide, 1.25" wheel that never had this problem. so be careful using it on decks or areas where the wheel can drop into an opening.

$60 donation.
I need to buy a bigger vacuum to suck this pile of garbage up. I've only used it a couple times since I bought it. Light stuff like my couch cushions and car carpet. I spilled some salt in my cupboard and thought I would use this to take away the excess. It wouldn't even start. It's past 30 days even though I have about 20 or 30 minutes run time on it(not all at once) I just a made a $60 donation.

Awesome
I purchased this primarily because our AC had a blocked drain and was leaking. This caused a giant puddle of standing water, which is a no go. I unpacked and assembled and within minutes, I was amazed at how well this vac performs. I was able to suck up all of the water after emptying it only once, showing me that it has a decent capacity for its size. I again was amazed at how well it handled that much water. It is easy to disassemble and clean/dry out and I have since been able to use it to pick up dry dirt, dust, etc. After properly cleaning and drying the filter, this little guy is and has been back in action and performing extremely well. I cant recommend this enough, it works and it works well.

Moved onto another vac
I purchased this to replace my older Sears vac. I was never too happy with it and read a lot of reviews to hopefully get something better. I didn't want a large volume tank but I wanted suction power. Assuming I set this one up correctly, I found the suction unremarkable. Thus, I returned it.I ended up purchasing the Shop Vac Hawkeye which is 5 gallons and 5.5HP (Peek) with a bit of reluctance as it has no wheels. The product is great. I comes with a dedicated shelf unit that allows you to "hang" it and the accessories on the wall. I actually like having no wheels as they never worked that great anyway and my old Sears tipped over a lot. The Hawkeye has a very long hose and I simply place in my work area and push or move if I need to. The unit is not heavy. So, if you are not committed to wheels I recommend you consider it.
