It *says* it's gold plated, but after receiving it I don't believe it is. The long description doesnt say it's plated, I think it's a gimmick

No, this is the best Gold Plated chain I have purchased in a very long time I wear it often and it took about a year for the clasp to start to change and then I just changed that piece.

Will the color fade IF I clean it with jewelry cleaner?

No it will not fade. I have cleaned it and wear it more then I should and it has not faded yet.
