This desoldering iron and solder puller worked perfectly right out of the box. I have a number circuit boards with small circuit pads having small plated through holes. The components soldered into the board are difficult to remove because of it. Furthermore, small pads are easily delaminated from the PCB with excessive heat. This tool makes it easy to remove parts without overheating the pads. It does an excellent job on the first pass of vacuuming solder from the PCB plated through holes. Since this desoldering iron is used in the vertical position with the solder puller built in, it is much more effective than a separate soldering iron with separate solder puller. It seems to work as well as a much more expensive desoldering tool although I am sure that the vacuum pump on more costly tools is much more powerful. I am very happy with this purchase and would highly recommend it based upon my limited experience.

I don’t know how I lived without this! Probably my favorite purchase of the entire year! Worked great.

Wow! This thing appears to be pretty great. As a hobbyist, I have struggled with desoldering parts from PCBs, but have had reasonably good success with a desoldering pump and the right brand of desoldering braid (Superwick!). But there is one PCB with extra small pad holes that I have been unable to conquer, which is why I decided to give this product a try. It has 6 bad sounding oscillators that I wanted to swap out. I've spent hours struggling with these in the past with no luck, but this heated desoldering pump got the job done in 20 minutes. Negatives? There is no temperature adjustment, and no on/off switch. And I've only used it once so far. If you are hoping to use this to poach loads of parts off of old PCBs, I don't know how well it would hold up to heavy use.

I do a lot of circuit board repairs - mostly game controllers. It is always a challenge to desolder buttons and sticks because of the multiple through-board solder points and the lead free solder that manufacturers use is high melting and finicky. An unheated solder sucker is super awkward to use and requires 2 hands - one for the sucker and one for the heater. This heated sucker is super easy to use - after it is well warmed up, you just set it over the soldered pin for a couple of seconds and then hit the button and you get a nice desoldered joint. It helps if you add a little bit of lead solder to the joint if it doesn't suck clean at first. I prefer this to using a heat gun to desolder because the gun can melt the solder of nearby surface-mounted components which can then be knock off and lost.
