I live off grid. I only see 1 lever (verses 2) So How do you run 1/2 of the toaster like all other 4 slice toasters?

You can't. It's 2 long slots & they both go down at the same time, no matter how many pieces of bread are in there.

Does it make an alert sound when it’s done toasting?

No, but the sound it makes when the toast pops up is the LOUDEST noise I've ever heard out of a toaster, so I don't think you need a timer alarm. Scares the crap out of me every time. Perfect toast, though.

Isn't this made in Austria?

Made? Not sure. The company IS based in Austria. Like the U.S. and many other countries, their products are made in China even tho the company is not. So Mueller may be also?
